My friend is using 8 gauge POWER wire for his SUBS!!! 2 15" Treo ss.22's With a power acoustik 1800 watt amplifier he'll probably be upgrading to a bigger amp in the future... And his box is built into the trunk so its NEVER COMMING OUT so we thought mine as well do it right now so you won't have to remove the subs ever again...

8 gauge is unneccesary... unless you have a half mile between your amp and sub..

i have been using it but plan to use 12 ga. in the future, i'm having too much of a problem using it on dual coil subs, trying to parallet the coil and fit two 8 gauge in those little holes they give you. it was easier when i could solder them.
anyway, i'm using stinger 12 gauge from now on, much easier to work with and i don't think there will be much of anything lost. the stinger wire is so fine stranded i think it makes better speaker wire than the 8 guage.
that's what i've concluded.

does nobody understand AC CURRENT. The voltage is so freaking high no way that awk wire is needed. look in your house. See wire powering the whole houses electronic, see what awk that is. There u go . .

That is not necessarily true, Wire size is dependant on the voltage and amperage being consumed through the wire, If your output amperage is more than the wire is rated for you could burn it up or see a considerable loss in voltage. By the way , The wire feeding your house is usaully 4/0 for a 200 amp service or #3 cu or #2al for 100 amp service. (I wire houses.)

Hey the 4000X has 8 gauge wire coming directly aout of it to connect to the speaker.US doesn't think its overkill. I personally would try to make 0 gauge fit It would definately have your friends think you have a kick ass system. In fact I bet if you used all 0 gauge wire with Optimus amps and Pyramid speakers(you know the ones with the clear cones!) people would see that wire and think you have one serious system!!!

YEAH I THINK I WILL LET CIRCUIT CITY BUILD MY VAN FOR ME, HELL I BET EVERY SET OF KENWOOD TORNADO CONES LEAVES THERE WITH 8 GUAGE WELDED TO THE LEADS. OF COURSE THEY WILL SAY 8 GUAGE IS GOOD FOR SPEAKER WIRE, IT COSTS MORE THAN 12 OR 10 GUAGE. DO YOU THINK THEY INSTALL THAT ON ALL THEIR SUBS OR JUST THE HEAVY DUTY ONES. OOOPS THEY DONT HAVE ANY HEAVY DUTY ONES.

house wire handles 110-120 ac volts. Not the 180-200 ac volts coming out of a pair of amps strapped. So i wouldnt say its over kill at all if your in that situation

i think 12 gauge is plenty i hooked up a system in my brothers car with that same power acoustik amp....hes running 2 12's with it (dvc's btw) and i agree with the whole too thick to wire a dvc those holes are small as hell....and besides 12 is more than enough anything thicker is overkill imo!!!

Eh, there's no such thing as overkill! Besides, HUGE wire looks friggin' awesome. When people see wire the size of power lines going to your subs, they're gonna stare in awe. It certainly can't hurt anything, and if you are having trouble wiring 0 awg to subs, get DD subs! They don't have terminals! just pure copper wire coming straight from the VC. (It is 14awg by the way) With that, you can solder ANY size wire onto it!

i agree with the whole "larger gauge wire looks cool" too....i know its unnecessary in lower powered systems like mine, but it creates a cool sense of "awe" among those who do not know as much.........i got 8 awg coming outta my bd1000.1 into a terminal cup that accepts 4 awg wire...from there i wired 4 awg using crimp connectors from nut & bolt on the underside of the cup....from there, the four 4 awg wires go to the other two terminal cups to the Vega 124's.....heck the wire was free (friend gave it to me) and the terminal cups were only $7, and i worked damn hard on my box, so why not make it look cool?.......i'll get some pics up soon for all to see...
