My little sis is looking to buy a used CRX and was thinking of putting a little system in it. I was wondering, would putting 6.5 replacement speakers in the stock locations with about 50 watts to each (50x4 -- RF 400a4 probably) be enough to give her some kick for rock 'n' roll? She normally listens to everything from Greenday to Manson to 4 Non-Blondes etc.
I was thinking, budget allowing, of putting in 1 to 2 8" IB subs in that little cubby-hole under the hatch. They would be mounted face down. If I sealed the front from the back, as is typically required, would she get a good thump from that? Could I fit a 10" in there instead? I would put a box in there, but she needs the room for college moves & stuff (beer).
Would an RF 400a4 be enough to power the 4 6.5s on the front 2 channels (2 Ohm stereo) and a pair of 8" IBs (Probably CV-Stealth or JL IB if I can find them)? Or, should I step-up to a 600a4?
She will probably be running a Kenwood cd-deck or tape/changer combo with 4 RCAs out. Any help/opinions/pics would be useful
Thank you!!

I have Polk components (5"and tweeter db Series), no rear fill., an 8" db sub up front and a 10" in the rear. 80wx2 for the front, 280w for the 8 and 240 for the 10 in the trunk (EX line). The 10 is not needed. This is in a Toyota Tercel...my point being, you don't need a lot in that car.

An IB sub does need air on both sides, so watch how tight a space you cram them into. Try this: Turn the spare so that the rim surface is down - leaving you the backside. Line the wheel with foil and glass it up. Add a baffle and pull the box free of the wheel. This should leave enough air for a single good 8" or 10" - plenty in a CRX. Plus the spare is still there. A good steel grille will keep everything safe. This should take a day, maybe a weekend and is way cool.
