Hello, I've been reading these forums for the last few weeks now, and this seems to be the best mobile electronics forum out there. You guys really know your stuff. This is my first post here, so I hope I don't come off too much like a newbie.. [Smile] Anyway...

I'm currently planning out a system for my '93 Thunderbird. Right now, i'm looking at the following:

2 - 12" Kicker L7
1 - 5x7 Components (don't know what brand yet, any suggestions?)
1 - 5x7 Coax (don't know brand yet, any suggestions?)
1 - Audiobahn A12001DQ (for the subs)
2 - Audiobahn A4201Q (one for components in front and one for my rear speakers)

I'm not 100% on the Audiobahn amps yet, I may get MTX instead. My main question is, am I going to have to upgrade my electrical system? I looked into some new alternators a few months back, and they were pretty pricey ($600+). If I do have to upgrade my alternator, I'm not sure how many amps it's going to have to push. Anyone with any insight on this, or a URL to cheap high-output alternators is greatly appreciated. Also, what do you guys think of my projected system? Any advise/criticism would be great. Thanks, and I look forward to your replies!

-Casey

I would imagine you are going to have a max pull rating of about 180-200 amps.

To answer your question...yes and no. Do you have to...no, but you will have horrible dimming. My suggestion to you is this:

1)Upgrade 3 wires under the hood(alt. + to batt. +, chassis to engine block, chassis to batt. -)

2) if this does not satisfy you...look into getting your alternator rewound, or go to an automotive store and find the biggest alternator they have for your model car.

If you do those, you should not have any problems, and it would be much cheaper than spending 500+ on a 200 amp alternator.

When you say "upgrade" those three wires, do you mean just use a larger gauge, or how exactly do I upgrad them? Thanks...

Well upgrade can mean 1 of 2 things:

1) Replace them totally with a larger wire(like 1/0 gauge)
2) Add more wire OVER the existing wire(4 gauge or lower)
