I'm new, so if this is the wrong forum, sorry
Anyways, I'm running 2 Kicker L7 10s in 2 1.75 cube boxes, each with a 2.5x11x17 port, in a 1996 Cavalier. I hit at 41hz. I'm powering them off an MA Audio MA4082HX, and am hitting almost 150 Db.
Anyways, it seems that my boxes are limiting my SPL, as I've hit the same number with a rockford BD1000, BD 1500 and my current amp. I've built 2 boxes so far to try and get it louder:
box 1: 34.5x23x12.5 (inside dimensions) with an 8x10x14 port, with the subs and port facing towards the back of the trunk. Peaked at 47 Hz
With this box, I lost about 10 Db. I attributed it to lack of airflow into the cabin of the car, so I built box #2
box 2: 33.5x26x11.5 with an 8x8x8 port, with the subs and port facing the trunk lid, at the back of the trunk. With this box, I lost about 4-5 Db. I figure there was plenty of airflow, and don't know what's up.
So I've gone back to my old boxes, and am still at 149.2 Db... It seems that bigger is not the answer. Has anyone dealt with a problem like this? Or can anyone recommend me a box design that might function better?
P.S: I'm trying to avoid spreading the box into my backseat, as this is my daily driver.

There are limits to everything. lol. But seriously i think the best people for you to talk to are the guys at kicker. I could help, but i need to know more about what you are looking for. Are you willing to sacrifice sound quality for spl? Let me know.

I am willing to sacrifice sound quality, just not my back seat
All I'm looking for is to post above 150. Maybe 151 if I'm lucky. I've got the power and the charging system, just not the box.

You said you are doing 149.2db right now. Have you considered using a bass boost such as an epicenter. If you can set it to a frequency near the tuning frequency of your enclosure it just may give that little something extra your looking for. What i can do for you right now is run that enclosure through the termpro software and see what i can come up with. I'll get back to you as soon as i can.

Power and signal aren't the problem. The boxes are physically limiting the air flow. At the moment, on my MA audio amp, I have the gains turned almost totally down. Turning them up makes no difference in SPL. Right now I figure I'm using about 1200w of the 2500w I have. That's why I need to figure out a box design that'll allow me to go louder Posts: 577 | From: wienerpeg canada | Registered: Sep 2002
