This is my first time on this forum and I was wondering what you (the members) think about MB Quart and Diamond Audio component sets. I like the Q series for the Quart but am not sure if they justify the increase in price over the PSD. I also really like the Hex's and M665's from Diamond Audio. I guess I am looking for people who have heard either of the sets or preferably own them and what they think about them (ie reccomend one over the other). Thanks for your time.

I have noty heard the Diamonds, but the Quarts I had once had, and pulled them out of my car. They had an amazing reputation when I got them, unfortunatly I had not listened to them in a car yet. In the store they sounded much better, but once they were in the car the tweeters were way too bright. Some people say you can compensate for this with positioning, but it just made more sense to me to replace them with something that sounded "better" to me. I highly recomend listening to speakers before you buy them. Reviews and reputations mean NOTHING if you have even slightly different taste then the person writting them. There are also many speakers in that price point I hear great things about. Advice on here is a great place to start, but be sure to audition them.

I am running a set of 5.25 qm quarts, and they sound f***** awesome. I had to lower the tweet in the door to knock out some of the brightness, but now the sound sweet with lots of detail. It will depend on the install, but if you do the quarts properly, you will not be disappointed.

Ok, I took your advice and went to go listen to the speakers. At first I listened to the MB quart Q series in the store. I was like these are awesome. They said that they had a demo car with them in it and I asked to listen to them in the car. There was a big difference. The highs were kind of "pingy". That's a horrible adjative but can't think of another way to put it. I then went and listened to the Diamon Audio. I listened to them in the store and thought they were clear and precise and then in the demo car. I guess everyone is different but I liked the Diamond Audio Hex's alot better. Does that mean anything. No, Only to me but I am the one who gets to listen to them everyday.
Now for my next questions, I have stock component sets with 5 1/4 in door and 3/4 in in the door window area next to door mirror. (stock locations) Should I mount the new speaker in the stock locations. I heard about fiberglass door pods. Don't know much about them yet. Is this something to consider? Finally, I know this is long, I have only replaced the front stage components so far and can't afford subs yet this month. Do I need an amp to properly drive these speakes? If yes how much power would be enough? I am buying a Pioneer DEH 940 MP in a couple of days (shopping for price) which has 50 watts on board per channel so I figure about 22 RMS. My speakers rang is 20-170 watts. I can't thinbk of any other info to post. Thanks for ready all this. All input is appreciated!

some people like puttin spks in stock locations, JL had an A4 that they did that, um most people think that the MB-Q are "harsh" but you sould listen to as many spks as possible in cars like yours or close. worry about spks then get amps to match them

I have also been considering the Diamond Hex series, how much did you pay for them. I have found them on line for $330 (I hope I am not to late in providing that price). Did you go with the silk tweeter (S600s) or the titanium (S600t)?
If you want to make those speakers sound anywhere near their potential you are going to have to get an amp. Unless you are in love with the Pioneer 940, I would recommend dropping down to the 840 or the 740. I don’t think you will be missing much in sound reproduction, just a lot of toys. Take the extra money and get a good amp, which I cannot say.
Things I would take into consideration. If I use a head unit that has fixed cross over points and a less versatile EQ, rely on the amp crossover and filters. I would use something like Orion or Alpine. If you go with the 940 (which I think has a 13 band EQ) get a Tube Driver (great sound reproduction, but not much in the way of filters).

I looked at the 7400 and just didn't like the display. I like the fact that with the 940MP you can download or make your own displays. I do have an amp that I am going to use now. It is the PPI 4400. I am still trying to figure out the RMS on these speakers though. Oh, I went with the silk tweeters. I though they sounded better and werent as "pingy" I plan on running all 4 channels to the component sets giving them around or about 100 watts per speaker. I don't reaLLY want to bi-amp because I will lose fading abilities which I want. I also thought that the 8400 was to cramped. Just my opinion though. With regard to the RMS of the speakers, I am not really dumb, I know that the range is 20-170 but I have seen the 170 being posted in multiple car audio mags as the RMS so I am a little confused. I always thought that it was half of the max range. If you have any light to shed on this let me know.

Just a post about the Pioneer Premier DEX-P940MP...I don't know that much about it but it looks great. It looks to have "just about" everythng in it that the DEX-P9 has, except that you get all of that in one chassis instead of having to buy the DEQ-P9 equalizer...okay, the crossover points are fixed, as are the EQ points, but 13 band EQ is probably enough for most people. although I'm really tempted to get stereo 31-band EQ with the P9 combo, I will probably not spend $2000 for the P9 setup and will get that P940...anyway, with PRO mode on the P940 it looks like you get a pretty freakin' good whack of toys to play with. I can't think of another HU that has all that.
