I got some more questions for all of you. I have a component set with 5's and tweets that have a biampable passive x-over. I also have a pair of SVC 4 ohm 12's. I would like to have 75-100 watts to the components and 300-400 for each 12. My interest is SQ. Here are my questions: Would biamping the components be worth the added cost? (anywhere from 200-500 dollars on the brands I'm looking at) Should I biamp using the passive or go active? What brand and models do you recommend? (I'm considering brands like ads, adcom, PG, PPI, Xtant, Zapco)

I would definitely bi-amp. It makes tuning infinitely easier. I also prefer active crossovers for the same reason, but the passives will be fine.
As far as amps, I would do RF, Xtant, or Butler Tube Drivers.

Agree with Dukk, wholeheartedly. I would try to find a nice 4 channel with x-overs built in and dump the passives. They rob power from your system! Also, because the passives are after the amplifier, your amplifier has to work harder than it should because it's sending 20-20 to the crossover, but the crossover is only passing it's own bands. Not a very efficient setup!

Thanks for the replies guys. I know for sure that I will go active if I biamp but I have one more question. One of the brands I was looking at was Xtant, would you still choose to biamp with a lower wattage four channel such as the 4180 (45 X 4) over a higher power two channel such as 2200ix (100 X 2)? Does the power difference change your opinions?

Thanks, your opinions pretty much mirror mine. I think I'm going to use a Xtant 604 to biamp the components and another 604 bridged to the 12's. I'll be back with more questions in the near future
