the truck would have more air space available to the subs then say a trunk of a car.so in other words bigger box for the subs that love the air space. IMO

The vehicle in question, should not create any new standards for classifying vehicles. ech competitor has the right to use whatever vehicle they deem to yield them the best results. If a competitor believes that the Avalanche will be the best vehicle for competitions, then they should have the right to purchase said vehicle. If a competitor believes that the Avalanche is not the best vehicle for competition, then they have equal rights not to use that vehicle.
The Avalanche is a truck, but can be transformed into a SUV without any special tools required. The Avalanche should follow the same guidelines as what is currently being used for street class...
·Any removable seat that remains installed in the vehicle during competition will be treated identically to a permanently installed seat.
·If a removable seat has been removed from the vehicle prior to competition, then the officiating staff will treat the vehicle as if that seat doesn’t exist.
If the panels are placed in the "truck" position (during competition), then the vehicle should be treated as any other truck. If the panels are in the "SUV" position (during competition), then it should be treated as a SUV (similar to the Blazer or the Durango)
Some may argue about the space availability of the Avalanche will have an advantage, but each competitor has equal rights as to what vehicle they are allowed to use for SPL competitions. It is up to the judging committee to determine how the vehicle is regulated, and I hope that they do not consider makeing drastic changes for the sake of a few vehicles.

Put that avalanche on some 38's and you will have one of the badest vehicles on the road. it would be a tank and would just run most cars right over. I think they are one bad a$$ vehicle. But that is just my OPINION so don't flame this too much

My father just purchased a new Avalanche. Makes me a think a little bit, but not too much because the street class isn't intended to circumvent rules using vehicles such as the Avalanche anyways. But yes they are nice vehicles with lots of versatility. I agree they are pretty goofy looking but they come stock with 17's and we put some 35.5s on it and it looks mean. Anyways, I would'nt worry about somebody going out and buying a 36,000 dollar vehicle so they could win Street class.

Your probally right. That would be like some going out and buying a $3,000 sub to win Street class.

In a hypothetical situation, the avalanche could be placed in "truck" posistion and have a camper shell added. By current rules the box could run all the way to the back of the bed as long as it stayed below the line of the window...

This truck comes with a roll bar. Is it permanant? I'm not sure you could add a camper shell. Anyone know for sure?

If the panels are in the "truck" position, and the box was placed inside the bed of the truck, it would be similar to someone doing the same thing to any other truck (ex. Chevy S-10). What would be the use of building a speaker enclosure in the bed of a truck, if there was no way for the sound (pressure) to reach the cabin of the vehicle?

I meant when the back wall is folded down as the "truck" posistion, that's what I thought you were referring to.

The Avalanche has bascially 2 configurations.
#1) SUV with short bed. The rear seat and "wall/window" are in the upright position and the only place for a box in the street class to be legal with this year's rules would be behind the seat, but in front of the folding panel.
#2) Truck with bed that attaches to interior. The rear seat is folded down, and the "midgate" panel is also folded down. You have to remove the rear window to do this (I believe), and doesn't that violate the rules about how the vehicle must be closed during competition? If you could fold that down, and keep the rear window in place, and put the enclosure under a tonneau cover (that went all the way up to the rear window), I don't see any problem with it, but with the window out, it is venting to the outside, and that is not allowed.
