So does anyone know someone who can recone dd's in florida by any chance.

There was someone using dd's in an extreme vehicle that is from tampa, was his name Krik (Sp?)

Does anyone know his email address? Damn what a waste, recone subs that have never been played.

And why recone them to dual 2? Then i would either be presenting the amp with an 8 ohm load mono, or a 2 ohm load?

Maybe i should be a little more clear about one other thing. I measured the dcr of the coil on one of my 9012's, It measured 1.6ohms dcr. when i called dd they said my fluke meter was off (Didnt take into account the resistance of the leads and they are actually 1.4 ohms dcr.)

I explained that i zeroed the meter out with leads connected then measured it, but i was told i was wrong??????

So my subs would be reconed from 1.6dcr to 1.9? Seems like a waste for such a little gain. May as well just run the amp above 4 ohms.

Well, speaking from EXPERIENCE on all the equipment you plan on using.

Your best option: Find someone in your area good at reconing and have the subs changed to dual 2's. This could be as low as $150 up to $300

Your second option: Send the amp to Zapco, have them change it to a 2 ohm version (requires resetting factory settings, rail voltage, preotection levels, etc). Not sure on *your* price.

Not a good option: accumatches!

As a side note: I don't think that amp will work with those subs out of the box. You *may* be able to roll it, however, it will NOT get as loud and the reliability burp to burp (or roll to roll) will be an issue.

Screw that, I am not wasting 300 bucks to have the subs reconed. They have never been played I can buy a set of l7 kicker 12's for 350. May as well do that.

This sucks

Would anyone else like to take my 300 dollars and burn it for me? Do you guys think i am loaded or something?

I would rather run the amp at 5.6 ohms and loose power.

cbrman, I think you might actually be louder with L7s, I got mine up to 155dB with only 1 9.0 in a truck with the first box I built for it according to the newer 2001 rules, so it wasn't exactly perfectly tuned, maybe you can find someone to trade, or sell your DDs outright, and see if you can't recoup most of your expenses, and minimise your losses, or see if you could trade that for a 2 ohm 9.0, if it's still unopened, maybe Zapco could exchange it for a 2 ohm version.

There's another option: http://www.fortunecity.com/business/takeover/407/id17.htm

I sent you another private message - go to your profile and check.

Yep, got them all.

I have to say many thanks to Scott "Q". All of your assistance will not be forgotten. If you make it to daytona I owe you lunch or a beer or something.

I would also like to say thanks to zapco, John and Dave have been very helpful. I am going to be getting the amp converted to a 2 ohm version for alot less then the cost of reconing both subs.

Man I can't wait.

Thanks everyone for your assistance, I didnt mean to be short with anyone, but the suggestion to just recone brand new subs kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Know what I mean.

That's good to hear. Zapco is a great company. If I may, did they tell you a "normal" price for this modification?

Not that it matter now.....but the amps will usually work best with a nominal load around this area.

I have not used the 2 ohm version, so I'm not fully aware of what it likes to see.

Also, The 1.6 you were reading was really 1.4
You may want to try to rezero that meter. Mine (fluke) can be stubborn sometimes also.
