Here are some pics of the '96 Impala SS I've been working on in my spare time for the past couple of weeks. It's nearing completion and I want to see what you guys think. I'm not up to using fiberglass just yet but I think my next install might be a testing ground.
Anyway...on to the gear!
Alpine CDA-9835 Orion 8004 RE 35.1 LE (the black one!!!!) RE HC 15 (1) Orion P6.2 (2 sets) #1 wire fused at 250A then distributed via #4 to each amp fused with 80A fuse 4" away. All component crossovers are behind the amps in the amp rack along with the fuses and distribution block. Each amp is grounded to the floor of the car with their own wire. #1 for the RE and #4 for the Orion. The box is 3.55 cubes after all displacement with 42sqin of port tuned at 33hz. This setup get LOW! The box is going to be puttied over on all the seams and screw holes and will be painted with black fleckstone. It should look very smooth when done. The orions sound perfect and with the crossovers on the Alpine I've set the fronts up at 18 db/octave and they are tight.
ON TO THE PICTURES! I'm no Steve Meade...

Thanks! I'm not going with carpet. I'm going to smooth it out and fill all the seams and holes with putty and then I'm going to paint it with fleckstone paint. I've done several with this before and it looks great IMO. That one pic shows some of the fleckstone but it wasn't but one coat because I knew I was going to have to paint around the lip again when I do the face. The rest is sufficent for inside the port because you will never see it unless you shine a light right down the port.

HAHAHA! No...it wouldn't be anything special anyway because it will knock your head off without the sub moving more than 1/4 inch peak to peak. I was shocked at how much louder and lower it got than my CMPx2 15 I used to run off a BMF 1000d. It's super tight too. I'm honestly shocked at how nice this sub, amp and box work together. I was a little nervous about using the trianular ports but I'm over that for sure!

No I didn't but the original owner cut the cross brace across the back seat and installed a couple of 10's right against the seat. I left that area open behind the amps and the cab gets PLENTY of bass for sure. Thanks for the kind words. I've learned a lot from this place and I want to keep doing this. I love working with good equipment and I pretty much do it for nothing for friends just to get to work with good stuff. This sub was originally mine but I never used it so its a NOS RE HC 15! I wish they hadn't stopped making these bad boys because they sound very nice.

but besides that, nice install, bet it sounds nice
My all time fav system of mine was still my 2 RE HC 12''s and 2 35.1's
Ooops! yeah you're right. It doesn't have a tag on it anywhere and I couldn't remeber the model number. 35.1 LE is right.
The ports don't woof at all. I cranked it up and stood at the back for a while and all I could hear was clean bass. Perhaps they're big enough and the shaped of the box works with them...I don't know...all I do know is I had doubts about it until I listened to it and now I'm Posts: 3280 | From: North Little Rock, Arkansas | Registered: Apr 2003

Yeah, they are a hell of an amp, i think ive had a total of 4-5, but never a black one. I actually sold my last pair to 2 different people, and within a month, they blew them both. One of the kids gave it back to me to test and make sure it was blown, and then just dropped off the face of the earth, havent heard or seen him in 6+ months, so i think i just got it back for free after i sold it lol

Yes I loved my HC15 also. The CMPx2 that you compared it to is a better driver with more potential in every area over the HC though IMO but it needs more power to really make it shine.

Loved my 8004 also.
Looks great so far.
I did like the CMPx2 but this HC is getting more power so that's probably the reason. Plus I ran sealed on the CMPx2 for a while.

Nice job! I wouldn't worry about the ports, it looks like you have enough area to not worry about turbulent noise being a factor. Off to a great start, now get us some finished pics up already.

Sadly it will be monday before I can do that. I don't have time to finish it until this weekend and putty and paint need proper time to dry so monday will be the finishing day (if I'm on schedule) The guy is riding with it unfinished now and has 3 people lined up wanting quotes...I don't know about doing this every day but every now and again is great fun. Plus I don't want people to confuse this with a business because it's not!

No offense but why would I do that? The sub doesn't move much at all to get really loud so it wouldn't be anything impressive as far as looking at the sub. Any particular reason you guys want a vid of the sub in action? I'm sure I could turn my digicam to video for a quick shot playing late night tip and get a little sub action but I'm curious as to why. It will be monday before I do it though because tomorrow I'll be putting putty on the box and then sanding and painting...probably go like this: Friday-putty, saturday-sand/clean/prime, sunday-paint/dry/paint...all depending on the weather for outside drying (faster) or inside drying (not as fast but with a fan it isn't bad)

Thanks! It doesn't look like it has a whole lot in the pic (to me) but if you saw it in person or know how an Impala truck is made it has A LOT of trunk space left. In fact...he can put s fullsize spare on either the left side or right side of the box without a problem. The box stops at the front of the hump down the center.
