I have a modded dpsq50 and I cant get the current led to turn off.
heres how it happened... I was hooking my amp up to my sub and then saw the red light and realized one of the speaker wires shorted each other. I thought no big deal cuz I can always turn the amp off and back on and it works... well for some reason this amp hates me cuz it doesnt want to work.
like any good installer I took out my DMM and started checking things and jumpers etc... even re-did my ground wire. full 12.33-12.50 volts when car is off. I even let the capacitors discharge in the amp. NOTHING... just that little red light starring at me... mocking me!
I unhooked the rcas, ran a 12 volt source to the remote in, unhooked all the connections... everything I could think of but it wont power up!
I used to be an installer now I'm an electrician and this darn thing has me stumped... could have I damaged the amp that easily... Ive put it into current before and nothing bad EVER happened.... confused.
the lil 'turn the amp off and back on and it works' trick...only works till the amp breaks...trust me especially if the yellow led lights up and you turn it off & back on again. then you're playing with fire 'cus the amps already overheating.
now did the yellow light up before you turned the unit off...or you sure it was the red one?
the red one will light up if you're working it too hard ("excessive current draw"), anything under a 4ohm mono, or a short.
how did you have the speakers hooked up? what ohm load?
is it blowing fuses when you turn it on? Smoke? Smell?
check to see if one of your subs is shorted out. completely disconnect the amp and reconnect it. try it on different speakers.
worst case scenario, you need a new power supply.
Try the above & if you're still stumped...call Ray @ TIPS 601.932.8477

just the red one.

just 4 ohms per channel bridged... and like I said I shorted out the wires thats how the light came on... but ive been lazy before on other amps as well and never had a problem which is why its scaring me.

no it has no smell... fuse holds fine and opened up the amp and it looks fine in there.

brand new alpine type-r 12 and checked ohm load and its 4.5-4.6 ohms per channel. had it working the other day but decided to move my ground... it wasnt grounding properly and so I went out to my car and saw the red light and was like WTH are you kidding me??? so i assumed cuz of the bad ground it didnt like it so I moved it and still red led. thats why I'm typing this now
already been to tips a few months ago due to my POS truck I had ripping the power out and touching the negative. YIKES!

4ohms per channel bridged tells me you're @ 2ohm mono...? anything under a 4ohm load mono = crispy. anything under 2ohm stereo = crispy.
using the amp for subs?! oh damn... dual voice coil? see what happens when you hook up just ONE sub to the amp...if it's single voice coil, run it at 4ohm...not bridged. and see what happens. dual voice coil, try running it seriesed, stereo & mono, n' see what happens.
(what mod you have done btw?)

i have the jumper set on it to turn it into a 2 channel amp. so i thought i could run it 4 ohms per each side which seemed to work just fine. manual is a bit vague but i never had a problem for the 2 days I used it to test the sub.
BUT, after I unhooked the sub and then turned the amp on the next day it would not turn on... aka current led on.
with just the power, ground, rem hooked up it refuses to power up. I have checked all connections and everyone is perfect. guess the amp just toasted itself?????
FYI - the day before it broke I noticed the power light (green one) was dimming when I turned the amp up so I immediatly realized my ground must be bad because the sub would distort under very low amp gain. so I waited till the next day and thats when I got the red light (hadnt touched the amp since the day before)
the mods are a more powerful power supply and burrs browns. ( had it fixed once at tips just after I bought it because I lost all output from 3 of the channels.) after it was fixed I broke the ground on the channel B rca so I removed it from my truck and it has acted weird ever since I tried to install it in my acura.
