Why didn't you glass that unstead of using some cloth and then putting resin on that.
also don't you put 2 layers of glass on the object first and then pop it off and then put another 2-3 and then get all that trim stuff together to angel it right and then fleece etc etc.

actually, i also prefer to make my shape with the fleece or black speaker grille cloth first.....then once the resin sets up on that then your shape is locked into place. Then i glass that.....

Mask the whole area off with masking tape first. Then use some spray glue and glue the aluminum foil to the tape. That way you have an exact fit on those surfaces. And the spray glue being a petroleum based product will help the resin release off of the tape.
Along those same lines...ditch the t-shirt material on the base. With the foil forming to the exact shape you want, lay fiberglass mat right on top of the foil...4-5 layers to get a good base.
Make the frame more sturdy. When you pull the material tight- as in no wrinkles anywhere on the surface (need to do that too), it will put a tension on the frame, and depending on the resin you use can make things warp when cured since the resin will shrink some.

thanks for the Advice.. I am pretty New to actually doing this but the T-shirts were Handy and I was going to rienforce the interior of thebox anyway.. I have just updated some more pics on the page.. you can see the rienforing on the inside now the wrinkles dont bother me too much we are going to Bondo the outside completely and that should remove any of the wrinkles we have .. but once again thanks for the suggestions we will most likely use them next time later Doug

The point of pulling the material tight and getting the wrinkles out is the cut down on the amount of body filler AND sanding time. The earlier you get the surface as close the "finished" the better off you will be.

good first time. yea as said above ditch the t shirt. go to wally world and buy the thick polor flease. when it has been soaked really good it dries .250-.300 thick and that is a excellent base. if doing pods or kicks that is all you need. if you are putting different speakers(6x9s,6.5) in the same enclosure make sure to give it a seperate chamber so the sub dosent blow it...

they are in seperate enclosures if you look you will see I built the sub box first then added the 6x9 pod on top.. I also understand about getting as close to finish as I can.. but I knew the glass wouldnt be thick enough so I wanted a nice layer of bondo on top 1/4"-3/8" thick bondo and 1/4"-3/8" thick of Glass later Doug

also not sure if it was preped to good or not but it would look even beter even smoother/slicker... might just need to sand the paint and buff it smoother.....
also hope thats not gonna be the rear carpet back thier.LMFAO i hope i can get my box glassed close to that! but like i think everyone in this world.... THINKS SANDING SUCKS.LOL

yea the kid that I was helpping do it decided it was enough sanding.. and when we bondoed over the screws that area cracked out so we just decided to remove the remaining bondo on it and paint it.. the most important thing is he is happy and I think I got him hooked on Bass Race lol later Doug
