I would like to work in car audio but I don't know where the money is. How do I get hired by a big company that might pay me good. What do they look for? How much could I make?

Here's a tip - it's not in Car Audio.
If you want to go where the money is, major in accounting, and go apply at on of the bigger Car Stereo companies as a staff accountant. They make as much money as anyone, and have reasonablly tranferable skills if you ever want to change industries.

i'm going to go to college as a physics major (possibly electrical engineering) so i can design speakers and amps and stuff so that should make good money if i get in with the right company. i think it's a pretty safe bet that if i can get a job with a large audio corporation that they won't pay minimum wage...

From this month's Car Audio Competition Corner:
"This month's question comes from Ryan, who asked me how he can break into the car audio industry. Most people start out in retail, meaning a car stereo shop. Large retailers like Circuit City are also a great place for car audio enthusiasts to get their start. If you want to take the next step and actually work for a manufacturer, your best bet is to get to know the factory reps when they come to your store. Ask them to keep you informed if any jobs open up at their companies. Almost all of the people in sales and marketing at Alpine started out in retail, so this technique has been successfully tested. Another good idea is to get some education at an installation school or a sales course, so that you have the skills to stand out and get noticed in the industry. As always, send your questions to Sbrown@Alpine-USA.com ." - Brown, Steve; Car Audio and Electronics; January 2002; pg. 98.

What kind of electronics classes did he take? What car audio shop did he work?

Hey man just to let you konw you're wanting to go into Car Audio I would recommend Electrical Engineering over Physics for sure. You will still learn a LOT about physics and you can ake all the electronics courses as well. In specific look at Microlectronics and Analog Electronics if you want to go into amp design... Ash
Oh yeah, last year people from my school got hire by bot JL and Orion right out of college...with a BS I think. It's very possible to get a good job if you take the right classes and do well...and ahve an active interest(which you obviously do if you're on this board)
