Is it just me or do a lot of bass race vehicles seem to be using bandpass enclosures? Of course Meade and Pipo are some exceptions that I've seen. As of lately though there have been several vehicles that use a form of Bandpass box (i.e. Tommy's truck, Neil's blazer, the guy doing the umpteen 15's in a huge cut through truck, etc...). Also, are these boxes 4th order bandpass or 6th order bandpass?

There a bandpass in the way they pressurize the middle chamber and the opening tunes it out...but its not actually BUILT to be a bandpass like some other installs

I guess they just had the appearance of being bandpasses because of the middle chamber that all of the woofers were firing into. What would be a good tuning frequency for doing street beating/bass race? I was thinking 31 Hz, but I just want to get a little feedback. My goal is to bring the pain and do a little hair trick.

Guess I was under the impression they were tuning lower. Thanks for the feedback.

I am seriously considering doing bass race...
just because its crazy!!! and for the same money I was going to spend on two RE MT 10's, I can get 100 cheap 8's, that would have 50% more displacement than a pair of RE XXX 18's, three times the rms power handeling, and would be 15dB 1w/1m more efficient that the two 18's
but now I've wandered away from SPL again, and want to build a twin turbo V8... hmm
I really need to finish one project at a time
edit: the 8's were going to be tuned to 35Hz (that was the main reason I replied to this thread )

That was the problem I had is it would not play nothing above 35hz. So if you played most music it sounded like $hit. But Im going to tune the next box higher. I tried everything to get the fre. up but nothing helped.

So you are suggesting that I should tune to the mid 30's?

The thing is guys when you say your gonna tune to this or that...that 1 hz isn't gonna make a diffrence.
You can use a box program to approximate the tuning but when you put it in a car its going to be drastically diffrent
SO if you say your tuning a box to 30 hz and you put it in a car the box and car could be tuned 20ish hz
Which is why I always recommend to tune around 40/45 hz on paper put it in the car and the tuning will go down and you still have a decent high end output from it also(60ish hz)
Billy your box is just too big is why your playing so low, i know it would be a pita but you need dividers between each row of subs around, so 4 dividers total 1.5'' thick it would get off =)

Yeah that's why i'm tuning mine closer to 40. Because the last few boxes i've done have been tuned to 30 on paper, and they end up being mid 20's in the vehicle.
Street A for now, I can always use the battery and amps in a bass race vehicle.
the 100 8's were to go in a bass tunnel, only problem is, how do you tuned a 3000 litre box to 35Hz? I know, with a port thats MASSIVE, and only 2.5 inches long.
hmm

I used an american bass transmission line box with 2-10" DX series subs on an MTX 1501D (2 ohm)at world finals. This set up easily ran in the 130-139.9 class using lil john's, Wut You Gon Do. This track plays in the low 30HZ range. This set up burped at 144DB's (higher frequency), facing backwards, in the trunk of a grand am. This yr I am going to run the same box with 2-12" AB XD series subs at 1ohm on a BX200 or maybe a 400.1. We'll see what happens.

Thanks a bunch for the info. Definitely very good stuff to know.
