ok first time on the mic and only a hi of 141.0 so in order for me to have a chance at the 39.9 class i will have to start perfect... seeing as how i have never bass raced that could be difficult. maybe a new box will get it up to a 144 or 145 so i can roll the volume if i get a bad start. on a positive note i can play full tilt with the car off for 15 minutes and voltage only drops to 13.7 so i think tahts good

With the right enclosure design you should be able to do 139.9 class. Civic's are pretty loud cars.
Invest in a 6" aeroport from partsexpress.com and make a new box 2.5-3cf with port and sub on same plain. You'll see a nice bump in score guaranteed with a little tuning of the port.
Also don't forget to try different positions in the trunk for the box. You'd be surprised how loud facing port and box forward can be. Posts: 1770 | From: elgin | Registered: Jan 2003

These pioneers just don't like gigantic boxes. He just got the sub the other day and it was the first box I drew up for him.
Adam swing by this weekend and we'll build you another box...I bet I can get it doing 146/147

Sub foward and port to driver's side. Like Jeff said do a single 6" aero, but I'd suggest that it be in 2 cubes after displacement. Then move the box back further in the trunk instead of right up at the opening and I bet you'll do at least a 145 with the box not tuned any lower than 37hz.

You're right. Box size was more of a guess. I should have said 2-2.5cf. I've found that with box size it's partly about the resonant frequency of the car or where the car peaks at frequency wise. For example in my Yaris which peaks at 55hz for my 10" DD I had to do a 2.25cf box with my 6" aeroport as long as it could go inside the box at 16-17" just to be able to hit 40-45hz descent. I would gain a lot of spl if I shortened the port but that would raise the frequency to high and it wouldn't hit 45hz and lower well at all.
Then in my friends Alero which peaks around 44hz with the same 10" sub and 6" aeroport I started with the same size box as my yaris at 2.25cf and it peaks so low that I couldn't make the port short enough to bring the frequency high enough to hit the 43-49hz range well. It slammed at 42hz and lower but anything above 42hz got sloppy and wasn't there. So I had to make the box smaller down to 1.75cf and once the port was tuned it still slammed at 38-42hz like with rap music but now the 43-49hz range was much tighter and much louder better for when listening to rock or house music.
I'm just saying that when it really comes down to making a ported box for a car that sounds good and is loud, every car is different and the mfg suggestion on box size are more of a good universal suggestion that have good frequency response and what the sub likes . Ideally I think you have to see where your car peaks at frequency wise then design from there keeping in mind what kind of music you like. If you like mostly rap bigger box or if you like a mix of rap and rock, house or tight bass a little smaller box.
Lucky most new cars or suv's peak pretty low so the suggest mfg or common box designs work pretty well. But cars like older civics and my yaris that peak high need a little work to have good frequency response and be loud from a ported box. And what I said really only applies to ported box. Bandpass is entirely different. That's just my experience though.

You want to tune that box much higher if you plan on doing a 139.9 with that sub. i would tune it to around 47 or 48 and then find a song that plays 47 or 48 the whole time, for a constant tone or close to constant. Thats the only way thats gonna happen. If you plan on bass racing your going to need a mid 140s burp with the car off to be able to comfortably do 139.9
