Whats the best bass race head unit? My last 2 decks have been Alpines but I'm thinking of switching to a Kenwood Excelon or Clarion....just wondering what everyone thinks. I'd like to get the best skip protection available.

I still use my trusty Nacamichi CD40... But its always been used outside, podium style.
I find it perfect, the only thing that maybe missing is an auto roll off mute, but I dont personally miss that.
The Competitor I bought it off, saw it at the WF at Lyon, he couldnt believe I was still using it... I bought it off him in 2000, and it was 2nd hand when he bought it!
PS, the Nak didnt skip 158-159db in my old Street car.... An Alpine skipped at 148, the Alpine with changer 152...

you missed the part where i said music catcher. i used the clarion unit at every bass race event i did, worked well. just gotta get used to hitting the button early. i usually hit the pause button when the meter said "ready", and it would start exactly between "set" and "go", therefore resulting in an absolutely perfect start every time. i could hit it at "ready", then just sit back and stare at the competitor next to me, really screw with their heads, then they are paying more attention to me than the meter.
plus, when using the actual music catcher feature, the delay is only 1/8th of a second, hardly enough to make a difference, unless you suck at reacting.

I love my Fusion FCD-255, it has the ESP of 40 seconds. Reads the song constantly 40 seconds ahead and never skips, absolutely amazing! even when you are able to bass race mid 150's

i like your style i've used the 40 in one vehicle and the 700 in another, for years.
as much as it hurts to say, i'd love a 45 to replace the 700 for bassrace. Posts: 438 | From: teh bay | Registered: Sep 2007
