I have 2 2002 Kicker L7 12's. Ported 5 cubic feet, ( can't make the box much bigger ) with 52 square feet of port. I'am doing street 1-2 in a 1992 lumina, I guess it's not the best SPL car. The backseats don't fold down so it's killing me. I did a 143.5 at the last show. The box is tuned around 36 and i hit 145.3 with a 40 on the db jams cd. Ohhh ya, lol I have a Directed 1100d runnig to both subs, maybe more power? I don't know, But if you can help, I want to WIN WITH KICKER!!! thanks everyone. And HI ALMA! it's me weedmanallday lol. see ya

For SPL your box is tuned a little low, but great for a driver set up. You have a good amount of power but you could use more. I am assuming that the subs and port are facing back? If so you should be OK, but having to go through the seat sucks. I would also try some higher tracks on dB jams, between 45-50 should yield you much better results. Good luck.

Wassup man......I had a 96 Lumina so I know kinda what you are talking about. If you have the money, make a slot port through your rear deck so the SPL can redirect off the rear glass and forward to the dash. Hope this helps...

Just some input on the port through the rear deck idea. I tried it, dont do it. Well in my car I had three twelves firing back and the port up through the rear deck and it was loud with the trunk or doors open, but got horrible cancellation with the car all shut. I ended up re-doing the package shelf with grill cloth and rebuilding the box so the subs and port fired backwards and it pounds like all.....but with no fold down seats, re-doing the package shelf was my answer to fold down seats.

To do that you would have to tune it super low, and lose out on higher freq peaking due to box tuning and you'd lose out a little. I still say try burping a higher freq. You should be up around 47-52 htz. That could be a 5 dB gain.

As Chinaman stated..haveing the subs firing rear and the port through the rear deck is a no no..i did it in my Intrepid..lost 2dbs....your best bet IMO is to fire everything rear and cut the largest hole you can in the rear deck(without removing it completly)and get grill cloth to cover it..the added venting should net you a few dbs..but you will be hard pressed to go great numbers without a folddown seat ......

Jason,

I have a 91 Sunbird. I could not break 145.1 with 2) Rockford XLC 12's no matter what i did. I kinda reached a "peak" or 145 in my trunk. SO one bored night, i saw this stuff called Fiberglass Resin and Fiberglass cloth. I started thinking, HMMM.

So here you go, steps in order. Get ready.

Step 1: Pull off the back seat and start cutting out AS MUCH foam as you can. some may need to stay in there for form, but cut as much as possible out (Leagal to DB Drag Rules) or the possibility remains to find a fold down seat for a lumina. DB Drag rules state that the competitor may replace any factory panel as long as it keeps the same form and function.

Step 2: Measure the opening. You will need a rectangular shaped subwoofer box with all of the port area and speaker cones on one surface. You then need to create and "l" shaped pannel that will butt up against the sub box with the bottoim of the L at the bottom of the trunk. Also it would help then to measure the bottom and top sides of the pannel/opening to determine side peices.

step 3: Stretch fiberglass over the new baffle, and soak this with the resin. Once the resin hardens, get ready to dedicate 6 more hours putting on layer after layer until you have a surface so strong, knocking as hard as you can feels like concrete. [Smile]

Step 4: Obtain 1 3/4" weatherstripping and apply this to the edge of the box that will be touching the new pannel you built.

This will allow you to wedge the box into it and have the wave from the subs not interact with the trunk ever again. The closer to sealing off the trunk as you can get, the louder your setup will be. I managed to add 3-7DB's to my cabin gain. I decreased the interior volume (legaly according to DB Drag rules because baffle boards behind the rearmost door jams are permitted [Smile] ) 14 cubic feet. I am now contemplating a 14 Cubic ft box tuned to 50Hz and two new subs. I should be able to take Streets 1-2 at least with a finals invite.

Check out my sounddomain site to seee a visual representation of this setup

By the way Jason, good job at the show last weekend. Another thing i forgot to mention, shoot me an email. i need to know the exact dimensions of the box, port, interior braces, ect, ect. I also need to know what note you bump, what amp you run, what load you run the amp at. I have a few other tricks up my sleve.

My box, at 54Hz, the note i bump, runs my amp at a 8.6ohm load, instead of 2 ohm. My amp calculates its load to 2 ohm, so instead of 1000 watts, i get 425-450watts. So i was doing 147.3db's with 450 watts.

Shoot me an email. joelbence@hotmail.com

what about in a camero would you rather face the speaker forward along the ark of the hatch or back? also about the port should it assume the same ark as the speaker facing forward ?

by the way what is cancellation what would cause it?
