Lots of credible info going around about Stillwater Designs in Oklahoma not producing amps or speakers anymore , that in fact their produced in China . WTF ? Can anybody shed some light on this ? Posts: 281 | From: Indiana | Registered: May 2002

I agree that over the last few years Kicker has had a building return issue but to quote the owner of Luecke audio video in Seymour, In Don Luecke "this has been the worst year ever for returns ,taking up to 30 days to get products back and recieving bad products on arrival." Does'nt sound like going off shore fixed anything maybe it was more profitable , but how long do you think people will put up with it before they change brands as I have ?

Going overseas made at least a 5% drop in return rate. Most returns are done within a 24-48 hour period, if items are in stock. Look at a 2001 L7, and a 2002 L7, and you can see the 'build' quality is much better........

who cares? and kathy Lee gifford has clothes made in a sweat shop in malaysia.. so what..
people make choices all the time. if you are so bent on WHERE somethign is made, then Kicker isn't the only place you should look.
Personally I love the way Kicker treats their competitors. everytime I have hung out with the KCG crew, i have felt nothing but a good vibe from all of them. THAT is what is it about.. supporting those who support you.
Thanks again Kicker for the good time at Heatwave !

spl jester : I didn't say I was bent just about the fact that the products were not made in the U.S. anymore , it's the fact that your given the idea that they still are made in the U.S. by having "Americas Music Machines " banners still strung on store fronts and accompanying top spl competitors vehichles to shows . And as far as getting treated good by Kicker because you use their products to compete . Who does not get treated good by a rep at a contest for using their product . It's not like they are going to go around shetting on people for using their products . Proud to be an American and I can't believe I'm getting dissed for it .

The original post was a question about a rumor . Which was sidestepped as any salesperson would do . Kicker has contacted me they do not manufacture products in Stillwater , Oklahoma they have them built in China and Korea , "their design of course " ,with representitives in place to insure they are made to Kicker's specs.

dude.. i've been fortunate to be around some of the big namers in this sport, and i am thankful for that.. BUT.. not all companies treat competitors the same. some do get treated totally different than others. which, i think is not a good thing. Each competitor ( who is serious at least) puts a lot of time and effort and $$ in their cars. WHat would it hurt a company, at a big show, to go out and show some support for these people? A lil goes a long way.
BTW.. i think i may have your post mixed up with someone else who was being a bit irate for the fact that some products are made overseas. there are pro's and con's to this decision by the companies. I understand your feeling of being a proud American.. but i think it could also include supporting those companies who are based in the US... instead of some company who is entirely based off shore, and pretendingto be made here in the states... know what i mean? it's all about supporting those who support you.. and who support this sport/hobby of ours.. and most of all.. it's about FUN !!!!

not a problem Tracy.. I had a good time. btw..the mower sounds better now.. a lot louder,a nd cleaner.. but.. I think i have the skipping CD player prob narrowed down.. the pressure inside the pod, and the small leak around the HU is allowing air to blow across the CD as it is playing. when i get abck to SA ( in Houston right now) I will seal the speakers from the HU with a lil foam. should do the trick.
nothing like cuttin the grass jammin out to some Zapp & Roger !!!

For lack of a better way of putting it... I’ve seen a lot of reps with diarrhea at one time or another. Gabe can vouch for that.

people would be suprised to find out what all is made out of country. after a very brief stay inside the manufacturing side, i found there are three or four companies making the bulk of the speaker/woofers that are made today. i even had an order book for one of these vendors. i could order 'this' basket with 'that' cone and have it look pretty much any way i wanted it to. i could order the subs assembled, or recieved the parts in bulk and assemble it myself.
i have heard this argument before, there are certanly pros and cons for this form of business. i have dealt with a lot of companies over the last few years and some have carved thier niche by using offshore production. and i have seen it ruin others, to the point of being sold, and bought, then sold again.
7-8 out of 10 companies have offshore vendors. like it or not, its there. all you can really hope for, is to reap the benfits of going that course. otherwise the companies pay with consequences.

The old slogan was "America's Music Machines'...which, then did match....but the 'American' quality was not up to par... Now, with the changes, we did also make a new change...if you look at our new website and slogan, or tie line, it is 'Livin' Loud....better suited for the way we are headed...... where a product is built shouldn't matter...how well it was 'designed' should......

I think using offshore metal parts is a good idea.
The parts are just as good and usually less money.
I don't think the voice coil , cone , & spiders should be done offshore or the assembly.

According to Kicker its more of a profitability issue than a quality issue to go offshore , versus American quality being the issue . "lol" Maybe before you go bashing American quality and making your defense , China's quality is better , polecat maybe you should stop replying to this thread before you really put your foot in your mouth . What happened vs 2000 99% of the car audio industry bragged our products are American made and now this is no longer true , anybody know what happened ?

According to exactly WHO at Kicker? Because, since Polecat works at Kicker, I would assume he would know the truth behind any changes made.

I have been following this thread and still do not know why it's in here. My basic feeling is if you like the product, then get it. If you don't like it - big deal - buy something you like. Do not run any company down because of where their products are produced.
