Polish, put the lights at the edge of the plexi (the far outer edge) so that it shines into the thickness (1/2") and it should make the who panel glow, with the routing in the middle standing out more.

Yea I used LEDs to light my door panels in my truck. they work really really well. It's like neon without taking up all the space. Make sure you use the right resistance when wireing them though. I'm not they go poof...

I use LEDs for lighting effects-- they are far more efficient than Neons.. not to mention they are virtually undestructible (unless you exceed the forward voltage of course) Use a high-output LED (usually the clear ones) They are available in Blue, Amber, Yellow, Red, Green, Orange, Purple, and Aqua.. approximately $3 ea. LEDs have no filament to burn, compact, no transformers to burn, unbreakable, efficient, and cheap.
BTW, for a 'hazy' and more efficient glow, sand the surface of the Plexiglass-- the deeper the scratches, the brighter it'll illuminate.

Check your local electronics store first.. if they don;t have them, go to www.allcorp.com or www.jameco.com for mailorder.
