I just completed my first CF project: a trim plate for my HU. I sanded it down nicely, including wet sanding and polishing compound. It's as smooth as glass, but it is a little hazy. The material does not show through as cleanly as I would like. I used Polyester Resin which I fear may be part of the problem. Does anyone have suggestions on how I might avoid this haziness on future (larger) projects?

I ordered it online from US Composites (www.shopmaninc.com). I got the resin from Sherwin Williams Automotive off Memorial.

Cool, I'm going to try and play with the CF.
I get my resin at La Faver supply at 81st and the BA, it's 19.00 a gallon and $89 for a 5 galloner. The 3oz mat is cheap there.

Shouldn't have anything to do with polyester resins- surfboard resin is a polyester resin, and it is water clear. I've used Bondo brand resin and it turned out really clear.

What you might be seeing is wax. Some resins come prewaxed so that they will cure out in air. Check to see if your resin is prewaxed.

Whats easier to use on Carbon Fiber, the Poly resin or the Epoxy?? I just want to make some trim like parts. Nothing with too much Stress on it.. Only Single layer of 3oz cloth.

Well...honestly? The polyester would probably work the best.

If you are doing trim pieces, you could probably get good results with plain old bondo brand resin...but it will be very brittle...or so I've heard [Smile] .
