I was wondering what was involved in mounting say a volt gauge or LCD panel in a rear view mirror. Specificlly about the glass: do you have to etch it to see the display, use special glass, etc.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

There was an install recently in one of my car audio mags that had done that with a head unit faceplate. They replaced the rearview mirror glass with one-way mirror, so when the light was on behind the glass, he could see it, but when it was dimmed or off, it was a normal mirror.

The featured install at Sounddomain right this week (5-24 to 5-28) has a rearview mirror that's modded like you're wanting. Go check it out. One different thing about it is that it etched the stock glass instead of one-way mirror. Also, it built out the mirror assembly to make more room inside it.
