AUGH. This install is getting on my nerves. I couldn't find carpet that was a normal thickness so I'm stuck w/ this carpet that has a fat backing so it threw all my measurements off. my plexi barely fit in its spot even after spending an hour or two trimming it back (the carpet) Well, now I'm making a trim piece to go over the plexi and I can't use two 1/8" pieces of hardboard anymore cuz it'd be too thick. I can only use one piece of hardboard now. How can I carpet one side and vinyl the other and still make it look clean?

Hmm, I guess I was really vague in that post. wasn't thinking straight. Well, before, I planned on wrapping two pieces of hardboard: one w/ vinyl, one w/ carpet, and then sticking them together. that way the edges of the material couldn't be seen. Now I'm stuck w/ one piece of hardboard.
Well, I guess I'm just going to fold the edges of the vinyl and then glue it to the back of the carpeted hardboard. I don't really care that much about the pieces. I just want to get the install finished. This is killing me too, cuz I'm normally a perfectionist, but this install is just really getting to me and it's taking up too much room in my apt. I feel bad cuz all the parts get in the way of my roommates, and there's a LOT of parts

If the carpet is too thick, try shaving it down with an electric razor, do this where the thickness is a problem. If the place where you planned to join the two panels is now going to be too thick, shave a little of the carpet fibers away in that area. Just remember to change the cutting heads before you need to shave your face, the carpet can dull them and they'll pull the hairs out of your face instead of cutting them off.
Another thing to try is wrapping the vinyl around a piece of chipboard, this is a type of cardboard 1/16" thick used by upholstery shops.
