this has been racking my brain for a while now...how do some of you guys flush mount door speakers in cutom fiberglassed door panels?
what im talking about is the extruded flush look, a flat plain flushmount i can figure out...but...what about a 'volcano' type looking mounting where the speakers would be flush, without a noticeable rim around it?...

Make a mounting ring out of MDF flush with the speaker, then stretch fleece or mat or whatever over it, and resin away.

more than that i think, youd still see the ring... think of a volcano with a speaker in it, but flush at the top of the crater...

thats what he means....when u make the ring...the speaker sits down in it and the top of the speaker is flush with the top of the ring

im really having trouble putting this to words, but i'll try again.
the fiberglass will go into an immediate slope on the outer edge of the speaker, do i just cut a ring at a 45 degree angle, or can i put something like a strip of sheetmetal around the mdf ring up to the height of the mounting surface of the speaker?
the top of the ring will be at an acute angle
like this,if you can make sense out of this example: ^===^....but the speaker will be flush, and the inside of the ring will be 90 degrees.
if you have a pic thatll be great...

The way I have always seen this done is cut a baffle for your speaker the exact size of it. Then rap a piece of formica or other material around it just high enough to be flush with your speaker. Then when you fiberglass it, it will be flush just how you want. However, you might want to make the baffle a little larger than the speaker and then do this, so you can make a grill that sits perfectly flush.

If you make the MDF ring very close in tolerance to your speakers dimensions then trim the ring with a 45 degree router bit it will leave only a ridge that encircles the speaker. Then when you glass and fill the rest of the pod there will be a fine line around your speaker, not a wide flat surface to distract the eye.
