They use the new Audiocontrol 190. I have heard that it reads a little higher then the termlab. You don't have to hold the burp as long.

i have experienced 3 db difference with the AC 190 reading higher, but i have seen it read the same on a vehicle -does 149.? on an ac and tl.
I would have to say it depends on type of car

Do they use this A/C for the SPL portion as well?

It is essentially a TL sensor on an AC.

The discrepencies between a TL set-up and a AC-190 set-up is due to the adjustment of the calibration knob on the AC.

This has to be at 0 when used with the 190 mics, not calibrated like the 180 mics.

With it being manually adjusted and with no way of telling wether it is 100% correct you will get slight variations in scores from machine to machine but not on during an event. Assuming, that is, the calibration knob isnt adjusted.

Not sure if they use it to judge SQ, since there isn't a show within like 7 hours of Des Moines.

its different depending on where you are at spl wise. if you are at 140 on the spl 190 its about 3 lower on the tl, 150 about 2-2.5, 160 about 1.5-2, not sure about 170 on it...

Jason, they shouldn't be. In fact the shows I've done this year they haven't. And they shouldn't without readjusting the rules governing the SPL portion of SQ testing.

Because of the drop in score and the cap being 135 to max points, anyone who was just hitting cap loses 4 points mid season because of a mic switch?

Hello,

I haven't read the rules but at the IASCA West Coast Judges Training at Image Dymanics they used the SPL-190 sensor for the spl portion of the SQ training. They also used it on Sunday during the competition for both the spl and sq spl portion.

Just though you'd like to know how they did it out here.

Matt
