So in the past I have always tuned for a more spl approach. Large box, high tuning like 45 hz. Say I tune such that my out of car -3db is at 25-30hz and there's no real "spl peak" like you'd get with a higher tuning frequency. In this case I will be sacrificing spl for a gain in bandwidth. How does this effect how loud you perceive it to be? My guess would be that if you had music playing and both at the same spl (even though one can produce more) the lower tuned would sound fuller and more powerful. Is this true?
I know some of you have a lot of experience with this. I would be very interested to hear your opinion on it. Im sure others would be too. Thanks!
