FINALLY I am out of my $2,000 debt! Guys take my advice--**N E V E R** sign for someone else to get a cell phone...no matter how much misfortune has happened to them or how well you know them...court sucks too.
Anyway until I get my next car (lookin for 97+ Regal GS or 96+ Bonneville for the big trunks), I'm gonna stick with the one-sub setup. Next car will be a 3.0-4.0 cu.ft. ported box made of baltic birch, with (2) Brahma 15s or if they can't fit due to height then JL W7 13.5s (or whatever else better comes out b/t now and then). DD 6.5s and their new tweets (out soon I've heard) plus a JL or Arc Audio amp, with a new HU also to follow. Ultimately want a DD 9501 amp and full 5.1 surround, but all that's WAYYY down the road (in time for DVD Audio to become more prevalent in the mobile environment).
With 900W @ 4 Ohms or 1750W @ 2 Ohms (HO Alt. gives me ~14.4V) off my 2001 bd1500.1, which sub would you go with for the best SQL? The XXX is out b/c (last I checked) they don't offer a coil config. that will suit my bd1500.1.
Here's a quick digression, if I may: I previously had a DD 9512d in the box outlined below, with 1750W RMS. I was told that my box was a bit too small to take full advantage of the 9512's output. So I'm hoping that won't happen with the Brahma and that it may actually be a little louder than the 9512 (b/c of the optimal box size).
My box is 2.5 cu.ft. ported, with ~40 sq. in. of port and currently tuned to 46Hz but will be lowered accordingly. Adire told me to go with 900W for the Brahma, and I'm not sure about the MAX.
How does the SPL of this third-gen. IDMAX compare to the Brahma? Any rumors of other ultra-SQL subs coming out soon? If you can, please address the box size issue two paragraphs above. Thanks!!I think I'll wait until the June 2003 CA&E Directory issue comes out...

So I assume to remain objective you've owned/heard both an IDMAX 12v3 and a Brahma 12 in your box that the IDMAX sounded so good in? Not trying to sound snotty, but with 90% of the opinions on this board, I can look in the person's sig and see the same brand they praise. Any other objective opinions, please?

The IDMax sounds excellent, like the DD9515 but goes lower, and has less output. I have heard a brahma 15....I didn't like it, very unrealistic. I give the IDmax 2 thumbs up. I think with your previous setup, you will like the IDMax much better than the brahma.

the IDMAX would sound alot better play lower, would probably be louder it is a great sub, otherwise i would look into RE HC series they sound very nice and have very decent output as well.

ilLUMINAte, since you're wondering, a bunch of us have done a head-to-head comparison of a lot of woofers, including the Brahma 15, 9512, and IDMAX, and the above posters have heard all three. I would take the idmax as well.

Thanks Rybaudio. Now the only thing bugging me is, in the head-to-head comparisons you mentioned, what box size/type/tuning was used?
Since (I've heard this many times) it's 90% install/10% driver, I need to know...thanks!

They like a lot of power. I don't think you have to worry about hooking a bd 1500.1 up to it, we had a shredder hooked up to it for a while and it took it pretty good. I would definatly get the ID Over the JL

The Brahma 15 I have heard in 3.5 cubes ported tuned to 35 Hz, 2.3 cubes ported tuned to 30 Hz, 2 cubes sealed, and if I remember right 3.5 sealed as well.
The IDMAX we tried in 1.5 cubes ported tuned to 27 Hz, 3.5 cubes ported tuned to 35 Hz, 1.5 cubes sealed and 3.5 cubes sealed.
I think in all cases I would take the idmax over the brahma...I just wish I would have tried 3 cubes tuned to 25 Hz for the max

1. If I go with IDMAX12 v.3, can I feed this thing 1700W (bd1500.1 @ 2 Ohms and 14.4V) or should I go with 900W? The ID site says 1800W Music Program.
2. Cheapest place to get a new one w/ warranty?
3. BIG Question: IDMAX12 v.3 of JL 12W7 (considering my current setup outlined in my initial post).
Thanks a lot for everyone's help!!
1. You can probably feed it that but it shouldn't be neccessary to get it to full excursion. In all the setups I tried, 1200 watts was either too much or perfect. I would still run the amp on it, just for the headroom. I'm sure it won't have any trouble taking the full power for bursts.
2. No idea honestly. Your best bet would be if you knew an ID dealer or had some type of connection to one, so you could get it at dealer cost or just above. Other than that I can't help you.
3. I haven't yet been able to audition a W7 unfortunately so I can't directly comment on that. However, after talking to some people that have similar tastes in sound as I do, I think I would like the idmax better. As far as output, I don't know which one would get louder really.
Hope this helps somewhat!

Thanks Ryb! That did help...I wonder if a Brahma v2 is on the way, and also does anyone know how much of an improvement the MAX v3 is over v1?
And anyone else have an XXX / Brahma / IDMAX I could audition? If not it's cool...thanks.
