well it depnds on how much power and how long the wires are...16guage is pretty skinny...it wouldn't cost much to upgreade to 12guage and if nothing else it would look better

look better? I always thought people were tryin to figure out how to make things wireless...so smaller wire would be better
but in that case...screw it, run 0 gauge for speaker wire

bass travels mainly through the center of the wire because of its high current/longer pulse nature. So, the larger the "core" of the wire, the more current hitting the sub at once. even full range speakers can benefit from larger wire.

Ok, I know that most of you are going to say this is overkill, but I am running 4Ga welding cable to my 12's, and I gained .3dB (maybe more, can't remember) from it

why? what did you upgrade from? what meter was this on? .3db could have come from less air space in the cabin.. unless you had 18 guage or something.. i dont that

Really high current carries on the surface of the wire rather than through it. I have been wanting to make terminal ends on 4 ga that would fit binding post teminals, any ideas?

It's the higher frequencies that travel on the surface of the wire. Lower frequencies travel pretty much the same as DC current, they go the shortest way in the wire, and if the current is big enough it uses the whole wire area to transport current.
I believe that speaker wires don't have to be very large, but if it's +2000 Watts, then I think you can benefit from using a little larger wire.

I was running 12 Ga at 1st, then switched to 4Ga, this was on a term pro, everything else was the same in the system/vehicle
