hey everyone i was just wondering if i change my 3" port to a 4" and keep it tuned to the same frequency will it be louder or quieter

Or would i get louder SPL by using a big slotport

The sub im using is a Kicker F15c 15" freeair sub in a 3.8Cube enclosure tuned down to 35Hz
running of a Power Acoustik Pa-352 2channel amp running 300w bridged

Its also in a trunk facing towards the rear sub and port

Thanks

a 3" port is a bit too small for a 15" and I'm sure its chuffing quite a bit at high volumes

a 3" port is only about 7 sq inches of port area

for your sub, I'd recommend 2 4" ports or a 25 sq inch square or slot port, to minimise frictional losses (which makes that annoying chuffing sound and can reduce your SPL)

From my personal experience a large slot port would work better. How big depends on sub frequncy, and box size. Also since you have a free air sub, sub that will take large box and port I would personally try the biggest box possible and port area the same as the cone area and work backwards from there.

The only problem could be that you are firing backwards with a huge box the spl might not get out. you might have to turn it around and seal it off from your trunk.
