I am building a box for a 9515 today and have a question... What is the best position for a port? The box is 8 cubes with 196 sq in of port and going in a hatch. The options are...point the sub up towards the hatch and port pointing into the cabin in between the seats, sub up and port towards cabin on passengers or drivers side, sub up and 2 ports...one on drivers side and one on passengers side, sub and port facing toward cabin (like a wall only not sealed off).

Another question, say the sub is firing up and the port towards the cabin, is it ok to be able to see the magnet through the port? Or should it be off centered so that you cant see the magnet directly? Is it better for sound waves to bounce around and not come straight out the port? Sorry if this was confusing but if you think you can help, either post here or email me and I can show you some pictures of my options.

Try sub up and port back...
Port and sub up ...
or Port and sub back...

Many people have had good results with those 3 options #1 being slightly better...But I'm not sure about facing the port to the cabin..

yep.. sub and port up with port on drivers side, or sub back and port back with port on drivers side. Or sub up and port back

in my car (a hatch), it was loudest with both sub + port facing back with the port on the drivers side

Yesterday we put the sub forward and port forward (sub in middle, 2 ports, tuned to 45 hz), sort of like a wall, and it was pretty loud. We didnt liquid nails anything yet so we are going to try the other ways too. I dont think we can do port up...the port is 19" long and the box only 16" tall.

One more question, should we tune it higher then 45 hz? What are you guys tuned to in your hatches?

Well, I would aim the sub back, in my Talon I gained alittle more then 2db facing backwards over up.
