Hello, i've been having serious problems in my crx. No matter what I do, i havn't been able to break a 150. People are doing it in their cars all over(none in mn though) with less than i've got. I was using 4 15" RF DVCs in a 15 cubic foot ported box tuned to 58 hz.(called rockford and got specs for the port, etc.) I was using 2 optima batterie's in the back to power the system and a pair of crossfire 1000Ds. My head unit is an Alpine 7940. What could possibly be my problem? All I want to do is break a 150. My highest is a 148.6. I'm just totally confused. I swear to god its got to have something to do with the altitude and how north we are. Or am I just doing something totally wrong? oh yeah, the box was a wall in my crx.

Just TRY this. I'm not guaranteeing anything at all, but seal up the ports (stuff a shirt in them, whatever) and see if you get the same spl or higher or significantly lower.

I have a friend with four twelves in a wall in the same car, and he changed from ported to sealed and gained some sound.

The reason for it is this- You can actually LOSE pressure into the box because the air in the car is connected to the air in the box, thereby giving you 15 more cubic feet to compress.

Just give it a try :-) and tell me how it turns out.

are you sure 58 is your resonant frequency? the freq. in my truck went from 52 to 54-56 and my spl went up from 154.4 to 155.2 just by putting in door panels.

Saw the kid with the JL18W6's.. new
hatchback right? That car hits pretty
well for such a basic system. I don't
remember the Ranger at any comps around
here though... but if he wasn't near 150
at the time, I probably wouldn't have noticed
him. The first St. Cloud show had a lot
of guys w/ 6 15s doing 147ish...
The 12 12's would be Pete (forget his last
name) in an Amigo, right? Hits low 150s
(outlaw?) from what I remember hearing.
Think you can expect a 152 legal maybe?
He's a USAC person though...
Wait till you see the Mankato crew next year
man.. We'll be the ones with coolers full
of beer :p

Definately, all of us at Team Sweet Sounds will be a force to be reckoned with next year at all the comps around MN. I'm working on my new system as we speak, this will be including mdf door panels, fiberglassing the floor and firewall, redoing the wall, more power(double the power) and will be considering different sub possibilities. I'm going to have anywhere from 4 to 8 crossfire 1000Ds. Oh, my ceiling will also become wood(temp bolt on piece for comps only). It should be a fun year, hoping to do big numbers, not sure though.

He used to run MMATS... not
exactly what you call a competitors
amp when it spent half it's life in
protect mode. (Same as me). To be flat
honest, even if they finally fixed that
problem, I would have a very hard time ever
going back to MMATS. I think he feels
the same way.

There is a guy around here with a yellow CRX with 4 DVC 15"s walled up, running off of 1 Punch 800a2. Sealed he hit 149-150 and ported he hit around 152 db with no cabin mods.

We built a CRX with 1 15" and 1 MMATS HC. With a TREO it did a 156.2dB and with a Jugg it did a 156.7dB. Ported box, sub facing up and port firing back in the hatch. And no this car did not have one modification to the interior!!! Food for thought.

Smell this. A competition where vehicles have a loud system and all of them are required to retain a stock interior from the door jam up. Imagine that... realistic vehicles... realistic scores.

Just an idea but do you have a High output alternator? Try that and a throttle actuator to keep the voltage up.

thor- the dude at mtx ran our car and design through his computer. he said with all the mods we should easily hit 157-160. any other compitition in the 5-8 sub class from around here? does anyone in mn hit over 155?? we hope to do most of our points in mn to goto the finals. i wish they would have a double or tripple pointer somewhere around here. there was also a dude in brainard hiting 149 with 2 15" dvc's and a 200.2 in a newwer 4x4 s-10. you don't remember the older ranger with all the wacky graphics and paint?? he was at the circut city event but not the audio king.

We have a car that should do low 50s with 8
10s... Depending on the classes Thumpin
and I go for, we'll be up there. If I do
some mods to my truck, I"ll be back in the
mid 50s. Did a 156.9 on Mertzig's... now
am doing 54's (cabin ****s). I figure after
I find out what the classes will be,
I want to get near 160... but I won't ruin
my truck in the process. (Daily driver)

I do between 156-159 legal depending on the equipment and I am running 8 jl 12w3's. the interior of my truck is competely stock from the door jam up, and I don't even have a shell. We are doing much bigger outlaw and extreme numbers and if I do well at USAC finals this year I am going to rebuild the truck this winter and make a full blown db dragster out of it. Curtdbmazda did you come to any of the S&K shows. If so are you the one with the box in the bed and the SVR battery next to the tailgate on the drivers side.

yeah, that's me. We have done a lot of changes to the truck since the last S&K show. I am running 4 1000d's instead of just two and I have 6 svr100's in the bed now along with moving the amps back there to cut voltage drop. I am from Pittsburg, Kansas. Hope to see everybody in KC. I'll be there doing dB Drags and the Lowrider show. Look for the Kandy Blue S-10 with the big RF sign next to it. It won't be to hard to miss it will be next to another S-10 that looks almost just like it.

Here's my approximate take on the cars that will be traveling with us next year (Team Sweet Sounds)

1) Team Sweet Sounds, big little hitter, mid to high 60's, pro 0-5 or 5-10
2) Thor, mid to upper 50's depending upon how many cabin mods he wants to make (3-4 class as of now)
3) Thumpin, mid 50's, again depending upon mods and how much time he wants to invest into trial & error
4) Alissa, should be low to mid 50's with a few hours of work this winter (5-8 class, 8-10's), no cabin mods at all
5) Benny, who knows, currently low 50's with 6-10" woofers, no mods.
6) Nick, 50's somewhere depending upon mods, two 18" strokers in a CRX
7) Jeff, ...I may play with the suburban, I think 150 would be cool from such a large vehicle with 1 or 2 subs, in the REAR. And besides, it needs to haul all the equipment and BEER
8) Justin, depending upon cash flow, would be in the 150's without a problem.
9) who'd I forget......

as a whole, next year should be fun
