On a crx, is it ok to remove the storage panel behind the seat (and B pillar) to do an amp rack? Once the amp rack is completed, the storage compartment will not be able to go back in place.

We did it last year at 3 different certified events...

Reason being, I'm about to do an install on one. Mounting the amps to the box is out of the question, mainly for security reasons. Mounting them in the area occupied by the "storage area", i can fabricate a couple of brackets so it'll be nice and solid. I'm not trying to circumvent any rules here, just trying to make for a more secure install.

It has been mentioned to my BY WAYNE that he wants more better looking installs and would allow more custom installs.
IMO, if a competitor was to remove anything from the vehicle to make more room for equipment, then the installation must be costmetically pleasing. If you ripped out the storage container and laid amps there I wouldn't allow it. If you made a custom amp rack and covered it in vynal, carpet or fiberglass and it looked totally cool .. then I would say yes.
These type modifications should only be done when doing custom installs.

dB Steve, one other question. If a competitor doesn't fit into a certain class are they thrown into SS? Ex. If I use two 12's, four amps, and two batteries, can I remain in Street C?

Guess who's next project is going to be a custom fiberglass amp rack for his CRX, where that lil storage compartment is. I love this post.

That's exactly what i was going to do Justin. It seems there is nowhere secure to mount amps in a crx. The install I'm doing requires a seperate amp rack from the box, in case the box has to be removed for the spare tire or storage. Mounting the amps on the box just is'nt very "security" minded.
With the amps where the middle storage comparment is, I can do some nice molding and use a good solid bracket system. In no means whatsoever did I plan to just ditch the compartment and throw some amps in there. I'm hoping I can legally build a nice looking amp rack in there, that will fit within the guidlines, and be secure enough to deter theft.
I'm not trying to slide by a loophole here, I'm just trying to do a nice little install and have it legal for a street class.

that is EXACTLY what we want to see and I would believe would be the purpose of the street class, seeing something done really nice and designed for daily use. Again, this was just only my opinion.
