Wayne, I am seeing a problem with too many competitors competing in the wrong class. Especially in the stock classes. I was at the Lakeland Circuit City show Sunday. You should have received an E-mail from James Turner (Polk Audio) concerning this show. A fellow competitor of mine drove 4 hours to get to this show. He competes in the stock 3-4 class. He is truly an entry level competitor. Near the end of the event, he became aware that he was competing against guys with 2000 watt Earthquake amps. He didn't want to start any trouble, but he brought it to my attention. I immediatly brought it up to James. He actually went over to the vehicles and checked them. He did find that they were in the wrong class. But, he allowed them to stay , as we were already into eliminations. I understood, and we just agreed that it was too late to change it. Well then these other competitors (in the wrong class) start to make inappropriate remarks to my buddy. We again approached James. He warned the competitors that they would be disqualified if any more problems arose. The point is, all of this could be avoided if the competitors were in the right class. My buddy would have won 1st place. As all three that beat him were part of the same group, all in the wrong class.
If you recall some of the problems I wrote you about at the Tallahassee (Kenwood) event, some of the problems at that event could have been avoided by proper classification.
I would also like to note, that none of the Circuit City event problems were James' fault. He does a fine job. I know this because I have been going to his dB Drag events for 3 years.
My suggestion would be to encourage promoters (or an assigned agent) to step to the vehicles and determine classification for the competitor. Don't rely on the competitor to provide this information. I participated in a MECA show where this was done. It worked real well.

Good comments. James sent me an email and said he would be discussing this particular show with me soon. As we are just starting to use the new classifications, I expect a few "bumps" here and there. Issues such as those you have vocalized will be addressed and hopefully they won't occur again.
I also believe a good on-line amplifier database could be of assistance. It sounds like the competitors using the EQ amps weren't classified by power correctly.
Competitors will need to assist as well. If you see something at a show that needs addressing, by all means, tell the judge. He is doing his best to insure that the event is as fair and fun as possible.
In conclusion, I would like to request that competitors be respectful and courteous when talking with the judge.
Thanks again for bringing this matter to my attention.
