Probably would be best if both batteries in your ride we the same manufacture . It wont hurt nothing if there not but was told diffrent batteries have diffrent specs and differing amounts of resistance. Not to mention the diffrence in cranking power . Optima are deep cycle and interstate is a starting battery . Myself i have a deisel which requires much more cranking amprage than a gas engine and i have 2 interstate batteries that give me 15v wired parallel .

interstate doesn't make any of their own batteries. Interstate sells batteries that look just like optimas, because they are optimas. so if they are the ones you mean, it dont matter.

My batteries look nothing like optimas . I have to disagree , what manufacture then makes the batt for interstate , are you saying optima ? I dont think so , because as i already stated i HAVE a deisel engine and 2 interstate batteries if they werw optimas they would have died on me long ago . Deep cycle batteries DONT work good for deisels cause they just dont have the cranking power . Im gonna look on my batteries right now and see who makes them , i bet its not optima .

interstate has a line of batteries out that are made by optima, they look just like optima's and in fact have optima printed underneath the interstate logo. If you'd like me to prove that i can. but the rest of their batteries (not just that one line) are from other suppliers. But i can guarentee you, interstate does not produce a single battery on their own. They make stickers that say interstate and slap them other companies batteries.

Thanks for clearing that up .. I was very confused when you said interstate is made by optima , i believe you . I tried to find a manufacture name on my batts but couldnt find one . Just says interstate with their web address .

theres a yellow top optima deep cycle for vehicles at $170.00 the blue top is a marine battery and red is a starting battery at $130.00 . yellow is what i use they are rated at 750cca . interstate batts are a little cheaper , not being deep cycle . At least the ones optima dont manufacture.

Under the hood i have a battery that is 1000cca... If I add a second one in the rear being the same battery would that help? they are lead acid and not gel cel style batteries... I need to get more steady of a current i was 14.14 volts at the battery and amp at idle... 10.8 Volts at the amp during an SPL run.

I have a deisel which comes with 2 batterys wired in parallel . I was using interstate megatrons and recently bought 2 yellow top optimas. The new batts are much better than my old ones , much less voltage sag. Volts did go from 14.4 - 13. though reason being the optimas aint as powerful as starting batterys. My interstate batts had higher voltage but shorter life. 2 batterys will double your cca and runtime. Will also allow your amps to run cooler with the increased amprage. One thing i noticed is they perform alot better than regular batts because they can be discharged to 20% without damage . Deep cycling a regular battery will signifigantly shorten its life , system sounds better with the optimas..

So if i put a red top under the hood, and a yellow top in the rear all should be good? or should i use 2 yellow top batteries?

Here is what i was talking about when i meant interstate batteries... http://www.interstatebatteries.com/products/product_line/extreme_performance.htm

A second battery will help your amps for sure but will put an extra load on your alt. Make sure the alt can handle it . You need 2 of the same batterys or you will have problems so 2 yellow top would work great and would keep your voltage at 12v no matter how hard you drive your amps ..

as far as price goes i went thru a dist. warehouse to get them for about 100 bucks

and if you want 2 buy 2 of the same kind
i went with red tops for the fact they discharge faster for burps on the spl car
