Ok, im gettina a 2000 chevy cavelier pretty soon. They come with 105amp alternators. I will be running an Audiobahn 18001 class d amplifier. It is rated 600x1 @4ohm rms and 1800watts x1 @ 1ohm Peak. If i run it at 4ohms for every day use, and 1ohm for competions, will I have a problem with just the 105amp alternator and a 1 farrad cap. I was told if I do this, I should be just fine, but I want to make certain. Please help me out here, dont wanna ruin my car when i get it...thanx

I have a '96 Sunfire with a 105 amp alt and a 600 WRMS system, for now, and don't have any problems with blinking lights, etc. except sometimes at idle. Been running it like this for almost a year now.

No upgrades to the electrical system, besides bigger ground wire. Stock battery, stock alt, and an amp. No caps. Gonna be adding 1000 watts this summer though, so I will probably have to upgrade then.

A cap is a good idea if you're using a stock electrical system. Even better would be a small second battery through a solenoid to act almost as a giant slow cap, then the cap for quick response. Kind of a buffered approach to electrical draw. Beef up the stock grounds.

Naw I didnt buy my car yesterday. I was only looking. I am going again Thursday(Tomorrow) to test drive the Hyundai Tiberon. Its hatchback, there phat lookin, its a 2.0liter 4cyle with 140horse. They only have a 75 amp alternator though. But hell my buddy is running a us 400, on his stock honda civic alt which is only like 60 amps, and he is fine...hes been running it for 3 years now, with only 2 caps.

I know that after my Z34 Lemona I will NEVER own another GM product in my life!

Incidentally, a friend with a 97 Sunfire is having an unusual problem. Seems the pass key system that is standard fare on that car likes to routinely ignore her factory keys leaving her stranded. Nice.

At GM, quality is job NONE!

I'd still take a Civic or a 2door Neon (soon!), but the Tiberon is definitely an interesting car!
