I have an old Autosound 2000 800,000 mfd cap, I was told it is around 7 years old, is there any way they can die, ie, not recharge anymore?

Yep, anything can go bad, however, since there are no moving parts inside, we'll assume it's not. Find a shop that has a capacitance meter, they can tell you if it's good or not.

Yes they go bad,Tey usely swell up,or start leaking. There is a way to chek them with an analog ohm meter.I think you put one wire on one termanal and one on the other. If the needle gose up and returns it is good,If it dose not move or stays up its bad.I think this is right but cant totally remember.Oh yea this test is done with the cap unhooked and discharged fully.hope this helps.
