I just bought a 240 amp alt from Dom, and I'm wondering what size fuse I should use between the alt and the batt. And what style? Thanx a lot guys

uummmm... yeah... you don't put a fuse there. within 18 AFTER the battery headint to power your system. But not between the batt and alt.

You don’t need to fuse it unless you have an isolator, or running your system off the alt. But ok since you got so smart with that one guy. You got a 240 amp alt. Put something higher then a 240 in!!

Ok sorry, just Pisses me off when some one asks a question, gets a reply and then tells them what ever your wrong! Hell the fact that you got a reply with in 48 hours on this part of the forum is quite nice. Fist off the Fuse is going to get HOT so that is going to drop the actual rating a bit so go with a 275 Amp ANL Fuse. Next Time please do not Jump on people. You DON’T have to fuse it, but you DO have to fuse it. Its all-personal Preference like - Breaker fuse or traditional fuse. People install their way how they like, and then swear by it. But ask your self this. Why would you need to fuse it? If installed correctly you don’t need a fuse. Every thing in your car already has a fuse on it. If you NEED to fuse it why don’t the automakers already do it? Not taking sides and sorry if it offends you but like you said why don’t you read all the posts. And from the looks he has been around 2 years longer then you have on the forum so I am guessing he has seen a little more then you. Just IMO. You don’t need to fuse it. Just get a nice 1/0 up grade going on.

The only time you really need to fuse an alternator is when there is a chance of the wire shorting out from being close to a header or from rubbing up against something. Otherwise...I really dont like fuses for anything....but they are a necessary evil sometimes. [Smile]
