ok, a lot of you know that ive had an ac delco 100 amp alt upgraded to a 200 because yall have been answering ?s about it for me. well, it hasnt been putting out enough. today i had it tested (at a shop that has nothing to do with the shop that put it in, so that biased opinions wouldnt be present) and it put out plenty of amps, but the voltage was fluctuating. he said the alt is prob fine, but it looks like i probably have a faulty regulator. what do all of you think? also, i will be adding 2 optima yellow tops to it. thanks

From what I've heard it is a common misunderstanding that yuor alt is bad when it is actually the regulator. But it would seem that the voltage is supposed to fluctuate a bit. Isn't it? I mean you are running the vehicle. Are you testing VAC or DC? AC would fluctuate

im assuming they were testing it dc. the voltage shoudnt fluctuate too much if the engine is held at a constant rpm and nothing else is running. its also fluctuating a good bit, like 13.9 down to 11.6. and it does it a lot, a constant up and down... the guy is ordering a new reg for it so we'll see if thats causing it.
