I was just about to replace my stock alt with a higher output one, when an idea sprang to my mind. Why not use both and dedicate one to my stereo? Any body know how to sucks to do this to a 92 S series truck?

I have an 87 s-10...2 alternators. I just replaced my AC compressor with a 200 amp stinger large case...I had to make a couple of REALLY simple brackets. Keep in mind I only have a 2.8 liter. I'm pretty sure a 4.3 is different. If ya have any questions..just let me know.

I have a 2.5 litre. Did you lose the use of your A/C? It doesn't really upset me if I do, but I would like to not. Can I still use one battery or will I need a 2nd one as well? Later on I would like to upgrade to a dedicated stereo battery, but for now I would rather just stick with my stock. What did you make the brackets out of?

Since I took out the AC compressor...uhh...yeah..I lost the AC. You definitly need more than one battery. You can start with one battery per alternator. I made the brackets out of some flat iron...about 3/16 thick and 1 inch wide. When I figure out how to post pics, I will let ya know, or, if ya send me your adress, I will shoot them to ya.

i looked into this for my suburban. it turned out that it was better for me to just upgrade to a H.O. alt. i was going to have to have the brackets made (no way i can make them) and change the belts pulleys and other stuff because there isnt a lot of room. but then again, i wasnt willing to loose my ac. i would say look into a H.O. and then check into 2 alts.

I have a HO alt(120 amp) and I think that it should be more than I need, but I would like to have a dedicated charging system to my stereo. My E-mail addy is tedhull@iname.com. Go ahead and send me some pics if you could. Was the process lengthy, costly, worth it in the end?

I have a pathfinder and I use 2 alts and I had to make a bracket costing $250 and get a new belt I never got a/c in my truck I wanted one without it because, the windows roll down I figured. I can say yes it is worth it because, the stock alt runs the truck and the second alt runs the system and 10 batteries. I would suggest a second alt to anyone that is thinking of it. That is my 2 cents

Thanks for all the replies so far. I have gotten both positive and negative feedback, and I am still not sure if I should do this. I would still like to, so any more opinions would be greatly appriciated.

Do it man! I have an F-150 that has a factory alt in it and I am tired of strobing, I bought a 200 amp alt and am going to run that to a separate deep cycle for the stereo. Just keep in mind it might not sound like alot of work, but it can turn out to be quite a handful. When it is all done you will be happy you did it. Fuel your amps with some high octane juice and makem pound.

Not worried about dB drag as I will never compete with this vehicle, atleast not in an SPL contest, maybe SQ, anyway. PPI_I where did you have the brackets made, what where they made of and why did they cost too much?

If you are spending the money on a new alt why not just buy a high output model? I understand you want to "dedicate" an alt to the stereo itself, but it seems to me you are making it more difficult than you have to. K.I.S.S. Especially i f you are not competing, the H.O. alt sounds like a more efficient solution.
Pegusus, why do you have the Bronco as your personal pic? Are you affiliated with Team Gates , somehow?
