I need your opinions on installing a 2nd Optima battery ! My current system consists of a Punch 800a4 (running on a safe 4 Ohm load) and a Punch 800a2 (running on a 2.67 Ohm load !!) . I´ve installed a Optima instead of the original battery already and the 800a2 is supported by 2 1Farad caps . Should i install a 2nd Optima (near the amps in the trunk) or is one battery with 2 caps enough ?

the extra battery will not help your system. the only thing it will do is allow you to play the stereo for a longer period of time with the engine off..

I don't mean to disagree with you Kappaboy but, I needed extra batteries because, my system in competition use to bog my motor down badly and almost stall it now since I have added more batteries it doesn't bog down at all and it now has the amps I need for my system. I think that for a regular listening vehicle system kappaboy is correct. If you are thinking of competing then the extra battery will not hurt in my opinion. I had 3 batteries then I added more giving me a total of 10 batteries. Kappaboy don't be mad at my post but, it is from my personal experience.

ppi, i am not mad at you, in your situation, it helped, and sort of solved the problem, well actually it did for you, or else you wouldnt recommend it. im not positive, but from what it sounds like, your system was pulling too much current, when it did, everything slowed down, because everything in your vehicle needs power to run. when you added the extra batteries, the problem stopped. this is because your system drained your batteries, and didnt pull from other electonics in the vehicle. but, when you turned your system off, or down with then engine still running, something had to recharge those batteries... your alt. it prob still effected the engine and everything else, just not to the point that you noticed it. see, it was trickling power back into the batteries, instead of large amounts of power being draw all at once when you didnt have the batteries. for you system and prob most everyone elses, you did the right thing, but if you were to keep running your system for a long period of time (competition volume) it would eventually drain all the batteries, and start slowing everything down again. but that would prob take at least a few hours.
in other words, if you look at the big overall picture and the possibilities of extreme use, the extra batteries wont help, but if you plan on using for short periods of time (competition, or just showing off) like PPI does, then yea, the extra battery will probably help if your noticeing any problems without it.
wow, my hands are tired now, hope i didnt bore anyone to death.
