Hi, I've been reading this board for a long time, but been too lazy to sign up.
But anyways, It's time for me to upgrade my fronts, and I've been reading about these Canton's, and was wondering where I could find more info about these speakers. I've read the post about which speakers and why also.
I'm looking for something different around the area, but sounds really good. I'm considering the ID Chameleons, Illusion Audio's (8"), Focal Utopia's, and Canton's.
I'm basing the Utopia's because I've and a chance to hear the Polykevlars and the Utopia's are supposed to be better. Also, I'd be sending quite a bit of power to each side, so I'd need a set that could take some power.

How good of a speaker is Canton? I only ask because I don't really like going to the shop where they sell Rockford. They sold me a lemon deck, and wouldn't even replace it, or even let me upgrade it. But I'll inqury about it.
How does Illusion Audio compare to the Focal Utopia? There's absolutely NO Illusion Audio dealers in my area, so I don't have a chance to listen to them.

I have never heard the Focal's, so I can't comment on them. Canton makes some really nice home stuff, and the car pieces are about the same.
The Illusions sound good to me, very natural. They have silk tweeters, which I like. Canton uses metal, but sound close to B&W home tweeters- which are the only metal tweeters that I really like.

Winslow and Dukk, thanks for the responses. Winslow, How are the Canton's compared to the Illusion? Sounds like you're saying the Canton's are a little better, if it's a second to Dynaudio. How are the midbass on each system? which has a stronger midbass is my question.

I love my Illusion components, they just sound right to me. I've listened to the ID chameleons and Illusions back to back in the same setup, and the Illusions are much better. The IDs are great and I recommend them quite often, but they are a little behind the others you list. I haven't heard the Cantons so I won't comment on them, I've only heard a couple cars with Focal and I am not sure which model they were. They sounded very good to me very crisp, very clear, the same reasons I like Illusion. I don't think you would be unhappy with any speaker you listed. But they do sound a little different and if possible try to listen to some in a car before you decide. If not just buy Illusion because I say they're cool. (that's why Winslow did )
I'm not saying that they are better, but different. My Illusions are neutral (flat) sounding, which I like very much. Dynaudio is number 1 in my book, but the Illusions are a close 1 1/2- I like them alot. I bought mine without ever hearing them, on a recommendation from JC2 and haven't looked back. Another cool thing about Illusion is that they are still a small company, and kind of esoteric at the moment.
Take a listen to both if you can.

jc2, thanks for the insight. It's almost impossible for me to listen to the speakers i listed, unless I did what I did to listen to the Focal. Was on vacation 2500km's away...... So no one carries or even has Illusion Audio in my city.. or even Canton.
But can the Illusion Audio speakers handle 500watts a side? from a PG ZX500 (2)? one on each side? I think it's a toss up between Illusion Audio , just from the opinions from winslow and jc2, and the Focal Utopia. Boy, i hate making hard decisions. jc2: atleast you narrowed one set of speakers off my list thanks.

I don't know about the power handling, I'm thinking of getting some RF500.2 and running one to my tweets, one to my mids, and one to my sub. I guarantee they couldn't handle 500 watts continuous but I don't think any other speaker could either. If you are careful about setting the gains and your speakers aren't making any nasty noises I don't think it will hurt them to have a big amp behind them.

I like the Illusions. I play guitar, and I know what guitar should sound like. When I play the Illusions, the guitar sounds "right." The heavy stuff like Fear Factory breathes like a stack of Mesa Dual Rectifiers should breathe, and classical sounds smooth as the silk strings. I like the speakers alot. And like I said earlier, I bought them with out listening to them- which I got lucky abd really fell in love with them.
If you are ever on Sounddomain, find a guy that goes by "C.I.A." and ask him what he thinks of his new Illusions.
I'm coming off of my soap box now...

Dukk: yea.. Canada is such a small country below the US.. we must know each other j/k Anyways I'm from Manitoba, u? or maybe I should just read your info.....
Hey.. anyone know if Illusion Audio does direct order? they don't have a contact/e-mail or anything on there page. How can I get in touch with the company? I'd be very interested in getting a set of Lucent Series LM-5.1 and a pair of 8" midbass.

Opps, sorry I haven't seen the page since it has been up. I have the phone number for Illusion at home, but won't be back there until the weekend. I am sure that JC2 would have it or Alma Gates. If you wanted to, call information and ask there. Illusion is based out of Tempe, Arizona. Or call the dealer I bought my drivers from at 704 882-6611. That is the number for Competition Audio and ask for Scott Boyd- he is the owner.
Uh, negate all of that. You didn't look close enough. Look on the bottom of the "Installations" page...
