Some people will say Dynaudio, some will say Focal and still others will say CD Tech, but they are all in the running to be considered the best IMO. Out of those three it is all personal preferance. a/d/s will also rank high as will Diamond, Boston Accoustics, MB Quart,

The best are whatever sound the best to YOU. This is about the most subjective area of a car audio system. Opinions vary greatly. I personally run Infinity Betas and love them. Others I've heard that were great IMO: Diamond HEX, Boston Pros, Focal Polykevlars, DEI Studios and MB Quarts. My thoughts...go debut a bunch and see what your ears tell you. -Jesse

I concur, take a listen to what you can find in your area. Also, there is a post on here: What kinda components/coaxials you running and why. Take a trip through that one and see if any of those brands and explanations of use appeal to you and your price range.
Cantons have been heavily lobbied for by Dukk and Audiophyle - two very reputible sources. The other brands listed above are all of stellar quality and may make you happy. But, the only way to tell is to either find a store with them, find someone with a brand you might want to listen to, or go with Winslow's methodology of listen to what JC2 says .
My personal opinion on the matter is what sounds good without making my wallet needing a massive transfusion and/or bypass.
There is no Best, only what is best for you. Me? I like Dynaudio, Illusion Audio, a/d/s, and probably Canton- those are my favorites. You might like Quarts or Boston Acoustics, hell, you might even like horns!

Gone mad? What do you mean? Quarts are right up there with horns...
Canton was a serious contender when I was looking to redo my system. I just couldn't get the same product support that I did the Illusions. Maybe when I buy another 2.2, I will get a set of Canton 5 1/4 coaxs for my kicks.

I believe he was referring to the fact that you took horns into consideration at all ;-)
Hey.. I heard a couple that didn't actually SOUND bad, although they still had the directionality-limited stage that one usually expects from horns, at SBN..
Of particular note was the gates explorer and the audiobahn demo car with high excursion 8" midbass and "audiobahn prototype " horns (i'm pretty sure they were ID's with no stickers, but hey, not quotes, all right?

Yeah Winslow, I was just jerkin' your chain about the horns! Tell ya what, if Audiobahn comes out with a good sounding horn, I'll stick a pair in my car (they'll be the only good sounding ones I can afford!). My favorite all around comp set is the a/d/s/ 320I/320is set, bi-amped, with 24dB x-overs set at 55hz-1.6k, 2.0k up. Yep, weirdo points, that seem to work really well with these components!
