What is everyone's opinion on the subject? What kind of mids will go reasonably low and still have good midrange response. I am looking for a three-way set up, subs, mids, and tweets. What are some crossover points for certain components?

Excellent question. Personally, I like anything by Infinity Kappa and Boston Accoustics. They are both very good for not a whole ton of cash.
Other worthwhile options: RF X, Q Dynaudio (Wow!!) Diamond/Hex PG ZeroPoint SS Exact CV Stealth (low cost) JBL Power (low cost) Orion McIntosh JL Audio
There are several more that can, and probably will be, named. Let your ears decide, if you can put a couple head-to-head at your local shop. That is how I normally do it, unless I can't get to a shop with Brand X, then I ask around here and go with those opinions .

Dude, for a budget (or even not budget) tight 3 way, the Canton can almost not be beat. There are only a couple of sets on the market today that can really beat it, and they all run in the 700-1200.00 price range. If you can find a dealer near you, go have a listen, you will be impressed!

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...

What's the pricing and performance on Canton stuff compared to something like Diamond Motorsport or Boston Acoustics? I've heard little about them and I don't think there's a dealer in all of AZ!

Does Canton have a web site where I can check out their stuff? From what I've heard, they sound great, but I've never seen/heard any of their stuff, and I don't think there's a dealer in all of AZ.

Focal Utopia Series drivers from there Grande Utopia 100,000 dollar canadian home theatre speakers modified to 4 ohms for car stereo use. The Grande utopia is one of the top 5 most beautiful sounding home theatre speakers period. Once youe experience the Focals you cant go back. I have heard MB Quart, Focal, Phoenix Gold, Alpine, Image DYnamics, OZ AUdio, and I havent heard DYNAUDIO but from my understanding DYNAUDIO and the Focal Utopia are teh biggest competitors for nicest car stereo speaker.
One choice Focal they are amazing. The Titanium inverted dome tweeter is designed using lots of intelligence. Seeing a normal Titanium tweeter is verted and when it moves at certain frequencies will tend to flex the twetter causing distortion. I may not have used teh right word there but Iwas on teh right track. While an inverted tweeter has teh voice coil right there in the center of it supporting it allowing a better sound.

That I would have to see. Traditionally, all of Focal's concave tweeters have used edge coils just like a dome. This allows the coil to be larger for better power handling. Their angle is the tighter dispersion pattern offered by the concave dome.

And that's the bottom line, cuz: LORD DUKK SAYS SO!

I was wondering if Cantons speakers are handmade?? Also wonderign if they are all tested before they leave the factory? I am also wondering if they are assembled in different places or all assembled in the same factory?? Becasue Focal is handmade, tested before it leaves teh factory, they are also assembled altogetehr in teh same factory. Personally I believe the market for Focal is picking up and if you look at what people are using at car sound offs and winning with it is usually dynaudio, MB QUart, Focal, and etc. I have a survey from USAC finals 1999 from USAC proving how many people used which product and how many people won witrh what product. I wouldnt mind hearing canton but i dont beleive i know anyone who carries them. see ya

Canton is a very respected home audio company whose car audio products aren't much different than the home stuff. Dealers are scarice in my neck of the woods, but can be found if you look hard enough. Dukk says that the Canton tweeters sound a lot like B&W's- which I like for metal domes. I still want to listen to a set. Dukk and Audiophyle like them, and those are two respected opinions to me.
I don't think that you can buy them on-line, but Audiophyle posted the link to their home page.
