Hi, I wanted to do kind of a cross between a 3 way and 4 way component system in my car.
I have a clk500 and it really only has 1 center channel speaker on the dash and both the front and the rear speakers are in the door and the tweeter is in the door at the top close to the side mirror. Anyway what I wanted to do is for rear fill go with some 6.5" midbass in the back of the door then use a 6.5" midrange in the front possible the focal audiom or something around that range speaker. Then change the tweeter in the door but leave it in its factory location. I am using a smaller midrange 4" and a tweeter in the dash for the center channel but I wanted to just add a little more to even out the gap. I was thinking about using 2 dome midrange on the dash one close to each tweeter in the door just to even it out a little. I do not have room for kicks because it is a fairly small car and I am 6'3". Any thoughts? I am not sure if I need the dome midranges or not but just an idea. I know it can be a pain to make it image right if you have 2 speakers playing the same frequency coming from different locations but I was hoping using the domes would be enough different that I would not have that issue

I was thinking it might be better to go with a coax or something in the back of my door instead of the mid-bass. But I still would like to have good mid-bass in the front. My problem is I wouldn't have any real place to put them if I put a mid-range in my front door. let me make the note I consider mid-bass from around 60hz-maybe 120hz then the mid range form like 100hz to maybe 1khz I know my opinion might be different then others and TBH. I have been out of the car audio comp for about 8 years. And when I was in I competed for SPL. How ever I have always been into SQ just in home audio. Where I have spent countless thousands (well maybe not quite that much) now with that said. What would be a good option for me speaker wise. Is there a good 6.5” that I can get to do both effectively?

I didn't get your PM...email me if you get the time...
The skaaning drivers...lets just say that IMO are the best drivers you can buy...but the issue with those are size...they are the largest drivers I own...they are huge!!!!and would require allot of cutting to get them to fit in the kicks and forget about getting them in the doors

Unless you feel like cutting up that CLK of your's I wouldn't think about the skaaning drivers...
notice the size difference compared to the DYN MW170

The dyns have fantastic midbass....but the scans are on another level in midrange quality...not saying the dyns r bad....just not scans or skaanings

So in your opinion the seas excel are better then the dyns for sq. the eq I will be using for these is an old ppi deq-230. Also what kind of baffle do you recommend I use in my doors?
One other thing I noticed is that the 6.5 dyns didn't seem to be as good as say the 6" or the 7" ones. I think I can make either 6 or 7 work in my car with out much effort

One other thing is I used to run a pair of infinity ribbon tweeters back in the day in my blazer. I did really like the crisp sound they had. What tweeter out there will give me as good of sound or better? I know there are a lot of ribbon tweeters out there but I think most would be a pain to put in my door...
ps I do still have the emits but they need new diaphragms now. I have seen replacement ones on ebay but they don't look the same as mine did. Any thoughts?

From what i have been reading for the last hour it sounds like the emit tweeters where just planar tweeters and not true ribbon tweeters. is this true?

I like ribbons..just not in the car...they have horrible off axis response so mounting then in anything besides kick panels is a waste of time...also they are huge "not talking about the ones car audio manufactures used to make"..and the only tweeter larger would be the Dyn MD330...
The SEAS are another great driver "got a few at the house"..but still IMO are not as good as Scan or Skaaning in the midrange

the dyn home and car are completely different drivers...and what sucks is that you cannot purchase DYN raw drivers for home any more....the closest car audio drivers to the home were the 15w75's and 16w75's...but Dyn hasn't made those in years...
you also may want to look into the Focal Be set..prolly the best off axis drivers you can get and would work perfectly if you plan on your mounting locations to be in the door...and they sound damn nice!!!

they are night and day way ahead of the Utopia's...you can trust me on this...it all comes down to installation and application...the Be tweeter is by far their best they have ever made...and the midrange on the set is also leaps and bounds ahead of any of their previous drivers

So for my car and mounting the speakers in the door keeping it as close to factory as I can. I will need a total of 4 speakers for my door plus the 2 tweeters and then I need at least 1 smaller speaker and possibly a tweeter for my center channel.
I did love the way my emits sounded in my blazer so I might FG them into my door where my factory tweets are. But I am still undecided on what speakers to go with and exactly what the best way to set it up will be.
I don't know for sure what I need for my rear fill and that will impact what I will do for my front doors. And depending on what I do for that will determine if I do something like dome mids in the dash close to the doors.
Do you think I could get away with x-ing the front door speakers and use them mostly for midbass and then use one center speaker and the dome mids on the side for my midrange. And my ribbons in the door for my tweets.
