kappas are more expensive, so probably better. i have reference 5-1/4 coaxials and they don't like my amp at 60 watts a side and are harsh.

I use 6/1 references and have no hashness. I mean its a Rockford amp which is not the most amazin but its cleaner than some. I listined to both and liked the Refernce better for the price. I couldnt tell a huge differnce.

I've run both. Kappas tend to be smoother & cleaner in the high-frequency area. However, the Reference series tend to be beefier in the mid-bass/low mid-range areas.
I normally recommend bass-heads to avoid Kappas. They are great, but from my experience, they don't hammer as hard. But, for an SQ system, Kappa all the way, IMO.
