a girl/friend asked me to upgrade some speakers in her car and i was thinking that in the back instead of just replacing the 6x9's that maybe i could build a box for 2 8"(about .75each chamber tuned to about 50hz) and have the port from each chamber go straight up to the 6x9 hole and just build a wood cover for the whole with a insert in the center for the port...

anyone have any ideas on how this would work..i'm sure sub/mid bass should be fine but would midrange be ok as well? i'll probably run the 8" up to about 350hz or so and then let the fronts take over
i was thinking of using aura 8k rpm

Sound like an alright plan, but I'd try tune the enclosures a little lower, like 40 hz, or the 8 will unload quite easily. Also, you may want to cut it off lower as well. I'm sure whatever front speakers you plan on doing will play to 150 hz, unless they're 3.5s, 4s or 4x6s.
