Topic: Looking for a 2k watt amp
Right now I think I've decided to upgrade to 2 RE HC 15s. Plan on using a 2k watt amp to power them. I'm not made of money, so what is the best bang for the buck out there today? -------------------- 2001 Chevy Impala Eclipse 8445 (2) Fi BTL 18s (walled) ID 6.5 Chameleons Sundown 100.4 Cactus Sounds 5kw Iraggi 320amp Alt XS Power Batts KnuKonceptz Wiring

After seeing the max current draw on one of those, I'm beginning to think I'm gonna have to run a much smaller amp. I only have a 190amp alt. This is not for competing. -------------------- 2001 Chevy Impala Eclipse 8445 (2) Fi BTL 18s (walled) ID 6.5 Chameleons Sundown 100.4 Cactus Sounds 5kw Iraggi 320amp Alt XS Power Batts KnuKonceptz Wiring

Well, Regardless of WHAT 2kw+ amp you look for....current draw is going to be WELL above 190amps. The 2000D draws WELL above 200amps at full tilt. Hell, an MMATS D300HC drew 170amps to do 1700w. I'd say possibly look at a 1000-1200w amp. That'll do the job MORE then fine. If it isn't for competing, you won't appreciate the extra 1-3dbs you'll gain from having the additional power anyway. Just my 2cents. Brian

Well, I already have the JBL 1200.1 and have used an MTX 6304 at the same time with limited light dimmage. Say the JBL did 1300 and the MTX would of been say 150 x 2 and the rears were bridged, so maybe 300 or so there. I'm not really sure how much I can get away with. -------------------- 2001 Chevy Impala Eclipse 8445 (2) Fi BTL 18s (walled) ID 6.5 Chameleons Sundown 100.4 Cactus Sounds 5kw Iraggi 320amp Alt XS Power Batts KnuKonceptz Wiring

So, scratch the 2k option. How about a 1,500 - 1,800 watt amp, that's better then the JBL. That's 1 ohm stable and has a subsonic filter. -------------------- 2001 Chevy Impala Eclipse 8445 (2) Fi BTL 18s (walled) ID 6.5 Chameleons Sundown 100.4 Cactus Sounds 5kw Iraggi 320amp Alt XS Power Batts KnuKonceptz Wiring

Well, I might just stick with my 15w3s and do a 14 or 15 cube wall tuned to 35hz with 150 square inches of port. They're dual 4 ohm coils. My JBL 1200.1 is great and all, but I'd like something with a built-in subsonic filter and better crossover. -------------------- 2001 Chevy Impala Eclipse 8445 (2) Fi BTL 18s (walled) ID 6.5 Chameleons Sundown 100.4 Cactus Sounds 5kw Iraggi 320amp Alt XS Power Batts KnuKonceptz Wiring

This is not for competing. If your not competing then obviously this is for music. On most typical music the amp will not come close to drawing maximum power. I could daily drive two kilowatts with a stock alt and one battery. It mainly depends on your listening habits. -------------------- Obviously you don't know who we think we are. SBAudio
