im thinking of changing my soundstream ref 300 for a pioneer gmx 924 so i can run my components actively and use the time alignment function of my head unit. do you think this would be a step backwards in terms of quality and loudness?

I've got a Soundstream Ref 500 sx, and I would'nt trade it for any Pioneer amp in the world.
I once compared a Pioneer amp (One of the newest models) to a phase linear amp.
The Pioneer amp sounded really bad.
The phaselinear was model 0.4kw and the Pioneer amp was the biggest one they make I think (600w).
The phaselinear really sounded fat but without losing control.

Pionner amps just suck. they are cheap
looking. and if you actually look inside
the board is half the size of the casing
sometimes left. they are bunk, u could
possibly have better output hooking your sub
to you a$$ ;p

Well my opinion is the same, Pioneer is middle line when it comes to amps, subs, anything. They make some decent home sterreo stuff but here in the auto world they aren't better that SS by any stretch of the imagination. Stick with the SS and you will be alot happier. How much are you looking to spend on another amp maby I can help you find one or give you some advice??
