Someone apparently thought they liked my head unit, so they decided to take it the other day. So I drug out my half-screwed up Clarion to put in its place. The only problem with it is that I have to use an external amp - the internal one is busted.
So, I was thinking of getting an inexpensive 2-channel amp to run the four speakers, putting the front and rear on each side in parallel to put two 2-ohm loads on the amp. I'll be getting a new car eventually, so it doesn't have to last forever.
I found a couple that meet my criteria, both push 50w x 2 at 4 ohms. My power would be higher, at 2 ohms for each channel. Both amps say they'll handle that.
The amps are the Clarion APA250 and Blaupunkt PCA250M. I love the sound quality of my Clarion head unit, but I'm somewhat worried about their amp reliability - esp since mine inside the stereo screwed up. Unless Clarion's seperate amps last longer.
I've never heard anything from Blaupunkt - how's the sound quality? Is the reliability any good?
Any thoughts on these two would be great...thanks!
Brian

Well, never mind. I tried out the Clarion today, and it's worse than I thought. It sounded fine, but after being on for about a minute, the area above the heat sink was about the temperature of the surface of the sun. Maybe not that bad, but it was too hot to touch. Not good!
So, I'm going to buy my friend's old Pioneer deck instead.
Thanks for the advice anyway!

Heck, you can find 4 channel amps on Ebay dirt cheap.
