Not to offensed anybody, but it seems that alot of people doesn't find a powered subwoofer loud enough to a car subwoofer. Anybody ever thought of putting a powered subwoofer in a car just for the heck of it? There are alot of powered subwoofer that are rated above the 500 watts. I personaly haven't heard the Sunfire, Velodyne HGS and SPL Series, but by resarching, I found that these subs can do damage to a house! I might be wrong, but that my IMO.

What I've found is that for the money you can make car equipment louder. If you buy a high powered home amp and a good sub that will hold it, you're looking at a few thousand at least. I know those velodyne systems retail for well over a thousand. For that amount of money you can buy a decent car amp and sub and be just as loud. Not to mention if you use a home sub/amp you would have to get a power inverter. So finacialy it wouldn't be desirable. Now to reverse your question, why don't more people use mobile audio subs in thier house? For the money you can get some bad boy subs and put them in the house. I had my solobaric 12 as my powered sub for a while and my friend lives about a half mile away. When I played bass mekanik in my room, he could hear in his house.

Alan if you are referring to my house, I think not. Dad and I built the house ourselves. Not thin walls. Our house doesn't even have wheels on it.

1/2 a mile away? ok buddy...playtime's over.
as for the powered sub question, i HAVE put my boston acoustics vr500 10" hometheater powered subwoofer in my '98 explorer sport. it wasn't that loud (loud enuf tho), but sounded great (as do all boston subs IMO). the driver in this sub is the same as the boston competitor drivers for car audio. only difference is that the competitor 10" costs ~$150 whereas the vr500 for hometheater with 100 watt amp retailed for $600 when i bought it (ouch).

When I play my home stereo, even at what I consider to be low volume, my mates in Australia can hear it. Of course I do have to be on the phone to them at the time. Colin

im using a cerwin vega, vega series sub, in a 5.5 cu. ft. (4th order) bandpass. powered by an OLDSCHOOL sony 4 channel home amp. (about 400 watts RMS) it gets a little warm when im playing it hard, but it serves its purpose well. and keeps pumpin' power like a SOLDIER!!
hope this helps,
peace
