I'm building a new box and amp rack within the next few weeks. I'll be running just one Punch 12 (RFP-1412). The box volume I playing around with would be 1.61 cubic feet after displacement.(that IS inside volume) Is that a good box size for this sub with about 150-200 watts running through it? I want really deep bass with smooth transition to my mid and highs. The box size i'm using now is just about 1 cubic feet and its too boomy and sloppy and is too noisy. Will this solve my problem? Thanks

I don't understand, 1 cube should have sounded pretty decent. 1.253 is RF recomended sealed volume. 1.61 is very large for a sealed box, I would think that sloppy boomy sound would be bad with this box. Perhaps if you ported it? Dukk???

Actuallly, go ahead with the large box. I have a DVC 12 in 2 cu ft SEALED and it sounds very good, I had the same problem you did and going larger helped. Make sure you use plenty of polyfill. And if the big box is not to your liking, try porting it.

I would have to disagree.. The DVC will work well in both large and small enclosures because of its very high excursion and relatively stiff suspension.
The punch that he is using does not have an excursion as high, and (I believe) has a less stiff suspension.
I have always preferred the sound of ANY punch subwoofer up to and including the late lamented AudioPhile series in a ported box.
Dukk.. Agreements or disagreements, or portmaster? A 1.5 to 1.75 cubic foot box, ported.

Quite a few of my friends are running those woofs (well XLC's but, close enough) and they seem to be doing quite well. There's a pair of 12"s in a '98 S-10 in a 3 cu. ft. sealed box of a 225.2 doing 140 db, a pair in a '91 Mustang HB in a 2.5 cu. ft. sealed off my old MTX 2160 doing 141 db and my girlfriends CRX with four in a 5 cu. ft. sealed box off a 400.4 doing around 141 db. You should also remember that it is also only ONE 12". Try the recommended 1.25 cu. ft. if you're going to go with a sealed box but, IMO Rockford's subs aren't the ultimate SQ subs as some people think their nature is to be a little boomy which also makes them more popular for boomers and db draggers.
