About 2 weeks ago I sent in my broken 200.2 cuz I wanted an extra amp...either to sell...or in case my current one gets destroyed.
Anyway...I got it back yesterday...and I hooked it up today after everything seemed to be working with my car. It worked fine for a couple hours..but then I drove to town..and on the way there the amp shut off. So..when I got to walmart..I got out and looked to see if any wires had disconnected..but none had. Then I pulled on the +12 and it kicked back on.
On the way home..it shut off again!! When I got home I pulled on the power wires and nothing happened. All the wires are hooked up right...and the amp was definitely not overheated.
I just paid $146 for repairs..and now it's stopped working again!! Rockford replaced the warranty stickers though. Does that mean it's under a new warranty now that it has been fixed by them?
I need to get this thing fixed for good...but I can't even afford to have it shipped...this just isn't right man. I JUST got the amp back yesterday and now this!!!

I think I'm gonna give up on car stereo. I'm tired of everything getting screwed up...and NOT being fixed. And problems here and there...it's just not worth it anymore.
Fosgate is supposed to be like the best company for all this. And I've continued to use them even though I've had problems with them many times already. I've blown out a pair of series 1 15's with 300 watts, 1 punch 15 with whatever a 100.2 puts out..which I sold after that...and bought a 200.2. Bought another 200.2 that was broken..but I thought it would be fixed. Paid $146, got it back..and still is broke.
If fosgate is supposed to be so good...I'd hate to see other companies. Imagine if I had soundstream or something.
Sorry..just had to let it out

Everyone gets frustrated once in a while....
Don't think you are the only one that has problems. Rockford is a good product don't give up on it yet. Car audio is sometimes like buying a car, for whatever reason sometimes you get a lemon...

Not to single you out but who installs your stuff? If it's a shop then switch to another. If your doing it then maybe you need to get some training or at least a good book on the subject. This field REQUIRES a well trained individual to get the work done and have it nice an reliable. All the pro installers on this forum don't get anywhere near enough credit. People think this is easy and my brother/friend will install it because he's good with his hands or something. This stuff isn't easy when done well. You've got box building, amp mounting (ventilation), wire selection, gain setting...so on determining the longevity of the equipment in question. Again, I'm not raggin on you guy. And more power to the DIY'r. But get some info and pointers on how everything goes first. Ask questions of people who are Pro's. (Like here) Keep at it, after a break
Anyway, I've been using RF gear since '88 and have never had a failure. And only one defective tweeter in all those years. Install can make the crappiest brands half way reliable. Anyway, sorry, I just want you to know that getting informed will be a valuable asset to the trade. As it is to all trades. Geez, I don't know how to end this speell so I'll just stop

That is what I wanted to say Tech, But I didn't want to hurt his feelings.
I have had only had one product failure in 7 years in my own car. And that is just a protection light on my class D for some odd reason. In the many, many systems I have done the only problems I have ever had are traced back to abuse and people saying I thought I could get a little more out of the amp. I didn't think it would hurt to change a few things....

I know AE. Patrick, I mean no insult whatsoever guy. If you took any, I'm sorry, that wasn't my intention. I was just checking what in my profession has also proven to be the case. Take it easy and good luck on all future endeavors.

Well..I install my stuff according to things I've read. Also..I listen to how people's setups are around here. I now work at our local audio shop..and I'm an installer.
I was over there one day talking to the guy..and he wanted to see my system. He showed me a few things that I should have done differently, but he said overall it was a nice little setup. So he gave me a job.
Mon-Thurs 10am-4pm. It's a pretty fun job..keeps me occupied..and the guy that owns the place knows a LOT!! Me and him sit there and talk on and on about installs..and brands..and things.
But...to get back to you tech...my installs have always been done right. I never slack off when installing. My brother used to do that..and he would have problems all the time. At least I only have problems some of the time.
I use the recommended gauges for my amps and speakers. So far..every box I've built has been sealed...so you don't have to worry about my blowing out subs because of the wrong tuning or no sub sonic filters.
My punch 12's and 8's never had a problem. They sounded great. And my working 200.2 has never done less than pound the speakers I gave it...same for the 100.2 I used to own.
The series 1's I'd bought were used..and possibly could have been abused before then..so that could have been they're problem and why they were so easily blown out.
I did buy the punch 15 brand new...but within 2 months..the voice coil seperated from the spider. (maybe some of you remember me complaining about that on the old forum)
and the broken 200.2 was also bought used....so it's most likely that I've only gotten 1 true bad product from rockford.

I get the loudest cd I have..and set the deck volume between 85-90% full.
Then I turn the gains up until it sounds like either the speakers aren't taking anymore...or the amp sounds a little dirty. Then I turn the gain down some.
Also..I do the same thing with the bass knob on the punch amps. I turn it up until the speakers sound like they can't take anymore..then I turn it down some.
And I never turn the deck up past that volume I set it on. I don't try to get sound from my amps that they can't produce. If it isn't loud enough...I'll get more speakers...or some that can handle more...and a new amp that will be loud enough.

Man, I wouldn't worry about the amp breaking down. If it happens again, take it back to the store, and see if you can exchange it for a different one. Ya never know, it might work. Good luck bro.
Don't give up on stereo stuff just because you had some bad luck, everyone goes through it once in a while.

I called rockford today...and I do have the 90 day warranty on what was already fixed.
But it's crap that I still have to pay the shipping there. They should refund my money or something on the shipping...it hasn't even been a week since I got it back!!
Last time it costed $17.50 to send it there...and now I'm screwed out of getting my components if I have to pay the shipping on this. I just had enough money for them...I would have had about $6.50 left over...but not now. Maybe the parents will pay for it..but they hate me having anything to do with all this stereo equipment..so they probably won't help me out.

Geez....You have got to have the dumbest posts, in this forum, out of anyone. I mean...I was just saying that I was kinda pissed about what happened..but it's alright now. The amp is on it's way again
You just need to chill out with slammin' products and companies all the time. It's pretty obvious you have no clue what you're talking about already.

Nobody gives a damn if you like rockford or not. That is just your own worped little opinion. Rockford is one of the best companies in the stereo market today. What the hell kind of stuff do you think is the best, like radio shack stuff or what? Quit slamming different companies unless you have tried their stuff. Like they used to say back in the day, IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE, THEN SHUT THE HELL UP!
AND THAT'S ALL I GOT TO SAY ABOUT THAT.

BASSboy- You seem to think you know everything, but you come into the forums asking for help. MAKE UP YOUR MIND! I think everybody on here is tired of playing your little games. Think about what you are saying before you make posts. Show at least a little bit of maturity. Patrick, sorry your topic got turned into this mess !

Exactly Patrick. It would be one thing to flame a flash in the pan (relative newcomers) like MMats or GZ. But to dog hard on a sure fire destroyer like RF? For crying out loud they've been around forever and continually put out kick ass products. Their amps are indestructable. Period. Been there done that. Have a six year old RF amp that still puts out mega power. Their subs (have a dvc) pound like none other.
Sure, they might not be top of the line anymore, but you aren't paying for it either! As far as I'm concerned, RF is the best deal around.

Ok, I just have a couple of more things to say about the post that bass nimrod put up. I have been dealing with rockford ever since I put in my first system. I never had a problem with them, because they build their stuff to take what you give them, and sometimes a little more. Anywho, my post earlier might have been a little harsh, but give me a friggin break. I mean, yeah, maybe rockford has changed a little, and they don't live up to everyone's expectations, but they still make some of the best damn products out there today. Why does everyone think that TEAM ROCKFORD IS AT THE TOP ALL THE TIME, because they have crappy equipment, I think not. Anywho, if someone doesn't like a certain product, fine, that is there opinion, but you don't need to go around saying that they totally suck. Bassboy, for instance. You would have to have one hell of a system to be on team rockford, but yet you aren't on there. Why is that, are you to good for them? Just curious.
Back to patrick.
Ok, granted everyone has problems with their system once in a while, but that is no reason to give up. If I gave up after having a problem with mine, I wouldn't be saying this stuff right now. Like my dad told me, take some time off from it, and go back later and make it the best that you can. Just a thought though. Anywho, once you get it finished, turn up the bass and piss some citizens off. People around here do it, what the hell. It is so much fun.
